Thanks Roger, just trying to watch it (in between hiccups with the download speed). Really interesting, especially for me the stuff about the Brennan torpedo ramp at Cliffe Fort. My grandfather was in the RE and I found from his army record that he was a trained operator on the Brennan at Fort Victoria, just W of Yarmouth on the IOW. A wire-guided missile in the 1890's....

The bloke presenting the prog said "If it wasn't for the aerial survey none of this would be discovered" about 8 times, in case we forgot the first time. Seriously dumbed down TV. Could have been very interesting but wasn't.

Trouble is that all these progs seem to be made with the expectation that they will be sold to other channels that have advert breaks. So we get bombarded with reminders all the time on the assumption that we have very short attention spans.

I found it quite interesting as I was based at Lodge Hill for a number of years and knew the training areas very well. We used to use the explosives range at Yantlet and I remember when range officer having to ring Southend Airport before firing. There was a range maximum we were permitted to set off at any one time and we exceeded it ever so slightly(sic) when getting rid of the all the surplus explosive after two days on the range!! I remember having a difficult conversation with the airport after that.
