Not so sure about that, have spoken with a few desperate to get rid and they reckoned two V8s at 5knts were using 3gph, that's pretty bad considering the number of hours you can rack up on a river.

My friend has a 30' Searay with twin petrols on The Thames and runs on only one because of fuel consumption and the hassle of lugging down of jerry cans.Would also like to go tidal but is too scared of the possible fuel bill!
 
I don't have petrol engines but my neighbour does - twins in a Princess 286
According to what he says it is economical at 5knots . So if you don't want to go too far or fast petrol is okay.
He is planning to sell and buy a boat with diesels - this being due to plenty of diesel refuelling opportunities but almost non existent petrol when we re away from our home marina.
