The Exe Major Damage

I really feel for you - I am on the Exmouth side but if there is anything I can do let me know - I popped down last night to check my boat - ashore at the end of the Gut - and it looked horrific out there.

All my sympathy from Italy... and as my father-in-law says, "everything can be put right again except death". A gutting experience nevertheless.

Likewise - Really sorry. The only bright point is that it doesn't seem as though anyone was killed or injured.

Peter, I've just read of your loss and I join all the other forumites in telling you how sad I feel for you. You must be feeling bereft, as if you have lost a pal. It's too early to think of the future but you will sail again. Sincere best wishes.

Hopefully she will be repairable and they are stout boats if not I guess start looking for the next one. It must be awful not for it to happen but to see it occuring and being totally impotent to do anything about it.

In my experience boat ownership has had a large emotional element. OK insurance may pay for the financial loss (if you're lucky) but some of us are obviously more attached to our boats than others. I guess it all depends how much you put into it.

Do you leave her on the Exe during the winter?

Most boats I know, including my own, are well layed up by now in Topsham, Retreat, Exmouth, Polly steps in Teignmouth and of corse the canal. There always appears to be a serious blow in october during the big spring.
