A check of Lloyd’s of London’s accident records shows that the Bermuda triangle is a no more dangerous part of the ocean than any other. U.S. Coast Guard records confirm this and no good arguments have ever been made to refute these statistics. So why all the fuss about the Bermuda Triangle ?

I've just heard, from a non-sailing friend, that it has to do with "methane bubbles", something about them bubbling up from the seabed. When this happens a vessel is no longer supported by the water, and therefore will sink through the methane bubbles. MY first reaction was perhaps he was thinking of a boat load of people who had eaten beans and therefore were causing their own methane bubble. However he swears that this is a viable theory.

Ocean Flatulance Theory

Methane hydrates exist all over the world, both under land and under the ocean, If gas hydrates can account for the missing in the Bermuda Triangle, they should be causing 10 times the disappearances all around the world considering the vast beds beneath!

The Gulf Stream goes through it which can throw up some pretty steep seas in wind against tide situation à la Agulhas current.

I don't know about the Burmuda Triangle but I have got one,,,it's called my garage. Anything I put into promptly gets lost,never to be seen again.

Because collectively, the public prefer complicated conspiratorial theories to simple explanations: Occam's Razor reversed! e.g. JFK, Diana Princess of Wales. Did the Titanic sink or was it switched with the Oceanic or the Majestic?

Oliver Stone couldn't make a decent movie about a lone gunman or a simple piece of bad driving. An evil plot by the Royal family + mafia + CIA + black Jewish freemasons + ... seems far more satisfactory. How do you know Tom Cruise hasn't absailed into the USCG headquarters and corrupted the data by changing one spool of tape on the computer? That trick worked for Benny Hill in The (real) Italian Job movie.

Although of course this would have no effect on the aircraft that have gone missing.People who have had near misses in the Bermuda Triangle all reported odd occurrences involving electromagnetism: their ships or planes would be seized by a strange vapor, then all equipment would go haywire; unexplained fogs would sit over the ocean, yet in all cases the weather was not right for creating fogs, and there was certainly no reason for electromagnetic aberrations such as they reported.

A massive flow rate of gas is required to substantially lower the ability of seawater to float a vessel. I have seen a video of a North Sea rig that sank when a gas riser fractured. This was a lot of gas! Releases that size would be exploited if it was a common occurrence.

Studies indicate there could be as much as 200 trillion cubic feet of this gas for US energy use alone. Worldwide estimates of the hydrate beds project 400 million trillion cubic feet exist. This dwarfs the estimates for natural gas which is only 5000 trillion cubic feet. As you say,this is a lot of gas if they could find a way to exploit it !

they have lost many floating rigs for this reason too, people can not swim in it, and low flying aircraft will also fall from the sky given enough gas discharge.

This theory was presented on a documentary years ago, it does make a lot of sense, there is a fault line running through the Bermuda Triangle.

The only real mystery about the Bermuda Triangle is how it became a hit !
