In these days when we should all be looking at recycling, shouldn’t they have offered the boat at a ‘peppercorn’ price to anyone wanting to renovate?

Advertised both online and with notice on the boat for some considerable time . Nobody daft enough to take it on even in Kent.
There is another one there , suspect about to undergo a similar fate !

What type / make of boat was it?

Even if they had given the boat away for nothing - or even offered to pay somebody to take it away - the odds are good that the cost of the materials alone for the renovation would be more than than the cost of buying a sister vessel in good working order.

But if this had happened say 30 years ago, the boat in the same condition would probably have fetched quite a reasonable sale price.

Judging from the remains it looked to be a 1960s/1970s 25ft mobo once powered by either an outdrive or outboard, boat had probably been abandoned and possibly sunk before being recovered by the EA.
Not that long ago the lower parts of the river were frequently found to have boats like this moored in out of the way spots, sometimes used as livaboards.
Recent clamour from up standing boat owners on both the Thames and Medway, not to have view these eyesores from the flybridges of their gin palaces, has resulted in the EA checking up on wether these boats were registered with the EA.Owners then removed all possible identification markers and walked away.
