In these days when we should all be looking at recycling, shouldn’t they have offered the boat at a ‘peppercorn’ price to anyone wanting to renovate?
Cosmopolitan that their web page shows an "English" pub decked in the Irish tricolourThis is a much nicer Bitter End, for anybody who finds themselves homesick for proper beer while in Paris.

What type / make of boat was it?
Even if they had given the boat away for nothing - or even offered to pay somebody to take it away - the odds are good that the cost of the materials alone for the renovation would be more than than the cost of buying a sister vessel in good working order.
But if this had happened say 30 years ago, the boat in the same condition would probably have fetched quite a reasonable sale price.
