The Best Fish and Chippery

Harry Ramsden's in Guiseley, about 30 years ago.
My memories of harry ramsdens go back to 1968 when i was a student at bradford university. Well cooked fresh fish and delicious chips served in a glittering shop. I returned some years later and found the same things but with enormous queues and coach trips in the car park. Its now a worldwide franchise but I've no knowledge if the quality is replicated at all their outlets.
It's a bit far from the sea anyway!

Stretching a point, there are several excellent chippies in Hunstanton, which (marginally) qualifies as a fishing port, and in theory could be visited by a yacht that can take the ground. My fin keel Moody 31 wouldn't get there! You could certainly walk to the chippie from your boat - but it could be across a mile of sand!

The chippy in Fort Augustus right next to the Caley Canal is non too bad if you are a passing Yachtie oh and The Chippy in Plockton is really good and the one at The Kyle is non too bad.

The F & C on the quay at Southwold is pretty good, just a short stroll along from the mooring area. Better than the pub, which is not bad.

Sorry Gentlemen, this one is the finest...

http://www.aldeburghfishandchips.co.uk/restaurants/

This place is so popular that tourist take photos of other tourists queing up. Certainly half an hour is common, they dont seem to mind at all, infact it seems like a tradition. Sensible persons take turns in White Hart (Adnams) next door, then eat them in beer garden.
Dont eat a lot of fish and chips myself, bit like coals to Newcastle. They say the last (local) Londoner who visited the Tower had his head cut off, if you get my meaning. But on a cold misty eve the smell is very tantalising so I usually nick a chip from a friendly stranger, yum.

In Brixham,http://www.robertsfisheries.com/simply_fish.html is stunning if a tad posh but you can takeaway. If you fancy some fresh shellfish i highly recommend Claws, both the kiosk on the quayside and the 'Claws indoors' that provides you with a table to sit at whilst scoffing down amazing crab, prawns, oysters at amazingly good prices.

Gerry,

as you're in or a regular at Brixham, a question please as I get to see repeats of ' Fish Town ' in the mornings, ( please tell me someone shot the poetic narrator ) I discovered the Maritime Inn as the best pub for quiet reflective book reading types like myself when there over a decade ago, is Ms Seddon still there ?

Take it from me that, based on approximately 5 samples, it's pretty aweful !!!
