Well, quite!
You make a good point, though. I don't think our feelings for the launch have changed since we sold half of her, and undeniably she now has better engine maintenance (I really should not be let loose on the small marine diesel engine!) and can afford to live in the marina, rather than on a drying mooring, which is vastly more convenient.
But where the big boat is concerned, it would be hard for me to sell half of her, because any co-owner would be greeted, for a long time to come, with "What are you doing with Andrew's boat?" and over the years she has started to acquire a few personal ideas and fittings which would not suit everyone. For instance, she has a pilot berth, despite being less than 10ft in beam; indeed her layout is aimed at comfort for a couple at sea rather than for four or five in port.
And of course I pat her rail and talk nicely to her, espescially after a good walk to the pub!
