What size and , if your happy to share, what spend scozzy? Apart from engine replacement, its based on doing it yourself where practical, but it is just estimates a lot of it. I'd love to get a feel for hpw far up or down they are in various areas. And its assuming buying new, obviously you save tons buying used, which is actually what I usually do.
Hi Steve

So my boat is a pirate express 17, bilge keeler. Obviously at the smaller scale of everything never mind cost! I looked at your list with interest as my neighbour and friend has a hunter 26 right next to mine and I often marvel at the costs involved there!
In any case when I got the boat is was in complete state and needed alot of work so was looking for a comparison on your list for the 18ft,obviously closest to me?
So im self employed in the building trade and have been for years so all tools, kit and practical mind to hand, also v handy the harbour is at the end of my street!
I can walk to boat on the hard in about a minute and took 5 mths of on/off pottering over winter 2 yrs ago to do the work and not everything was purchased new, ive highlighted below

So.... To the figures

Boat and 4hp 2st outboard
£400(it was a state ?)
NEW mainsail and UV strip for jib
£650
NEW standing rigging
£200
Replace NEW electronics, wiring and lights
£95 (old but serviceable navman 5500 plotter came with boat)
NEW Paint, antifoul, primers etc
£250
Upgrade/replace NEW various on deck cleats, jammers etc
£85
Lazy jacks (made by me)
£20
NEW Fenders, halyards, sheets and control lines etc
£180
My "auto pilot" is sheet to tiller design by me?
£25
Replace NEW perspex windows x3 and sealant
£65
Line interior with NEW"van carpet"
£75
NEW mooring lines x3 with shackles etc
£60
NEW auto life jackets x4
NEW buoyancy jackets x2
£300

Obviously with boat my size plumbing and heating are not relevant (unless i need something to do next winter ?)
Interesting exercise and i appreciate your efforts and have a few pals who can relate to some of the numbers!
I only need a small outboard for getting me in/out of the harbour and the odd fishing trip and my sheet to tiller for a few blocks and a few quid does me just fine for day sailing , be quite funny to see a boat my size with a massive wind vane hanging off the stern?
Like a lot here im sure, i enjoy the mucking about as much as anything, and have tonnes of fun with my now smart, seaworthy wee boat, all for circa 2.5K?
I expect now to spend £2-300 a season for the next few years servicing outboard, the odd Jerry can of fuel and bits and pieces that pop up.

Cheers

L

A very interesting post. I bought a Westerly GK29 last year.it had just had a new engine with a bill for just over 8000 including fitting. The new instruments have cost me £1947, so a bit under your estimate but I’ve not gone overboard, new VHF, Garmin plotter, AIS , wind and depth. New standing rigging cost me £1102 but a new Furlex added another £1600. A new main and Genoa has cost £2334 . Unlike Concerto I’ve replaced all my headlining for £867 but I did it all myself. So far I’ve spent £8500 on rescuing a boat which hadn’t been sailed for over 8 years and I’m very happy with what I’ve done. I haven’t included mooring, lifting and anti foul etc as I consider these annual ownership costs rather than upgrade costs.
