The 70's nightmare - Faom backed vinyl headlining !

No give it 5 to 7 years and will start disintegrating again. Believe me this is from bitter experience.
Mine has now all been re done with double sided stickey back foam from Hawkhouse. Made from a totally different material that does not fall apart...
With the double sided foam does one side stick to the hull, and the new lining to the other side, without the need for more adhesive?
Was thinking of using Hawkehouse single sided. foam then sticking the new lining to that with spray adhesive.

OK ... I see other ways to sort out the headlining mess .. good.

There were two concerns when I considered how to solve mine.

1. The Vinyl was leaving lots of semi failed foam back behind - as well as dust
2. Being a small 25ft motor sailer of old 70's deesign - the amount of curves and direction changes meant I needed a 'stretch' material
3. Had to be a single shot job ...

Youtube is full of the Van Lining videos and it answered all 3 points.

I have finished fore cabin and only need replace curtains ...

In the main cabin - the edges and borders are still holding - with the middle of sections hanging loose. Its still acceptable for this season - as its a terrible job with all that dust and crud .. so will be replaced later. A few side / lower parts have failed - where its cut and then applied underdeck over shelves etc. As an experiment (as I don't need foam there) ... I pulled the vinyl out enough to get a brush and vacuum cleaner nozzle in ... got rid of as much dust and foam bits as possible ... sprayed with Trim Fix ... put vinyl back .. IT HELD !!

OK on subject of Trim Fix adhesive ... I bought 20sq m of lining .. which came with 10 cans of TF adhesive. To do my forecabin .. I reckon was about 2 - 3sq m ....... I used 2 cans .... so for those thinking about this job ... be prepared to have to buy extra cans ... lets say 1 can per 1.5sq m at least.

I have a suspicion that Trim Fix is not much different to what Carpet Layers use for Foam Backed Carpet.

Because I had to remove the curtain rods ... I decided that it was time to wash the curtains ..........

Oh dear ... opened machine door after completed ... bunch of tatty rags came out.

Today went to shop ..bought new material ... then to Dress-makers we use for various .. who are now making replacement curtains. Luckily - the old are still just about good enough to use as templates.
