Now, now, 1971Lou, you should know better than to criticise a member of the clique. That's asking for trouble. You are right, but you should really learn to use more diplomatic language /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hello Lou,

Great to see you are still around. Under all that vitriolic crap you do have a valid point...but I bet you did not make the debating team at school, that is if you went to school and are not sat at home tagged for breaking your asbo!

Jez did privately PM a lot of people, but it makes sense to open it up for all. Starting a business with limited cash flow is hard! I know because I have done it. I came on the forum and asked for help and that help was great! Without it I may have written off a lot of money.

Jez is starting a new 'Boat' commercial business and as we are a boating forum and some may one day buy off him I think it is a positive thing for the forum. Yes, it is still commercial but done in the best possible taste. Jez does need help with the website, how many times do we get comments on here that 'websites are crap'. Isn't it more sensible to get a response from the people who will look at it?

Jez is technically bending the rules but is doing it in a mature and responsible way. He also adds a lot to this forum and is a valued member. Just because he now sells boats does not mean he has changed.

Jez, please continue to keep us informed in the manner which you have begun, and Lou, please moderate your style of vitriol because with a little help you too may become a valued member of our team on here!

Jez, go for it, Lou get help/advice/training.

Cheers

Paul (I love boats!) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sailroom is commercial, it's a limited company and I bet your Memorandum of Association says something like "To carry out business as a general commercial company." So it's commercial, it doesn't matter if you aren't actually making money from it right now, you intend to.
AtSailing although it's not yours it is commercial, it's another limited company and it's getting a bit of free advertising on here courtesy of you.
Bluesheets has a nice link to Sailroom and it's also another commercial site.
No idea what the bike thing is all about. It's about as non boaty as selling mobile phones on here! It's still commercial though.

I'm sure everybody involved in the above sites is all very nice but it doesn't matter whether they support the same charities or are good sailors or even if they directly pay you. They are commercial.

I'm not going to get drawn into a battle over this but you can't just distort the meaning of words in order to make it acceptable to you.

Grumble over....

Anyone know where I can buy a bike? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Beautiful picture of an Osprey.

mallard-duck.jpg

What do you mean it quacks, has webbed feet , swims and has an aversion to oranges; so it must be a duck?

As a long standing member of the forum,ex HM forces,DD to RNLI up to date, ex member of a circular organisation(Do good by stealth with no thought for ones own commercial interests!!!) and all round good egg. I tell you that it is an Osprey.

I think a number of contributors are taking the piss.............big time on the commercial interest and self promotion front.

If I want to go into a Bazaar I've got E bay on my favorites list.

rules maybe rules to you, but its not up to you to interpret them. Its up to the moderators. Jez very fairly discussed this with the moderators, and they accepted his request.
I hope he has got 2 years worth of orders, but surely no one thinks that was the purpose of the thread. The purpose was a request for help from a diverse group of boaters who are familiar with boats and the internet.
It might be one day you would like some help from the forum, though with your present vitriole, I fear you might struggle.

Yawn! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Not this again? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I for one enjoy the "commercial" links, as long as they are boaty! This is afterall a boaty forum.
No one forces you to click on them, or even to look at the forum in the 1st place.
I don't like Whisky, so I never buy any!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

"I have NO problem with commercial posts BUT the rules say you are not allowed to do that, this person is breaking the rules plain and simple."

You are aiding and abetting!

I never click on links in signatures - not a matter of principle or anything, I just dont really notice them and dont go shopping unless I want to buy something. However, because of your sustained and (seemingly) personal attack on jezbanks I clicked on his link to see what the fuss is all about...........

Nice site! If I'm ever in the market for a quality sports motor boat I would def. look closer.

Thanks for flagging it up /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
