2012 update for alerting other YBW users to Thames River conditions and other urgent information for river users.

Any registered forum user can post a message on this thread (and this thread only for reasons that will become clear) if there is a sudden change in conditions or other urgent information. With the number of people here out and about and living on the river, this has proved to be a very valuable tool.

If you want to receive alerts, click on 'Thread Tools' at the top of this thread and select 'Subscribe To This Thread' from the dropdown. Then select 'Instant Notification by Email' and then click on 'Add subscription'.

If you do this, ANY post to this thread will automatically be emailed to your registered email address. Provided you have a mobile with email capability you will then receive messages as they are posted without needing to visit the website.

Please note this thread is not for general discussion and ONLY to report river/weather conditions and other urgent information which may be helpful to river users so please, do not post here unless that is the case.

Latest EA stream warnings/status are available here:

Incorrect information on that page. The Red boards are from Marlow to Temple; not Marlow to Cookham. (as of 10.15am 26th until 17.00 (at least).

You are welcome to think whatever you wish.
The fact remains the reach upstream of Marlow to Temple is on red boards and, at the times quoted, the reach from Marlow downstream to Cookham is on Yellow boards.

Someone has fed the office the wrong info then ?

As i'm sure you are aware , the locks phone the duty officer when they go red or yellow and the site is updated accordingly.

The lock/weir that is listed as Red Boards is as stated on the river conditions page, this has changed as the weir status has altered.
If Marlow is shown as Red, then the relevant boards will be displayed at that lock on the downstream side of the head and tail gates facing downstream (so upstream traffic sees the warning)
The next lock upstream (in this case Temple) will also display red boards, but on the upstream side of head and tail gates, facing upstream (so downstream traffic sees the warning)
Marlow weir and the whole reach between Marlow and Temple is therefore on Red Boards.

Just for absolute clarity :)

Marlow went red boards at 10.15 on the 26th and still is. The boards were placed just as Shades said they should be.

On the same day Cookham did not reach the red boards threshold (and still hasn't).

Therefore the Temple to Marlow reach has been on red boards status throughout and the Marlow to Cookham reach totally failed to achieve that honour.

This looks like a case of 'Computer says no'.

I apologise , i obviously have no idea what i am doing. I'm the new boy. ;)

I can only update on info given to me.

I won't participate in these discussions if i am going to be critisised by fellow lock staff for something that is out of my control.

:)

Dear Ted, I’m truly sorry if I offended you. Of course you can only work on the information given, which is why I tried to correct it.

However, as you seem to have a taste for melodrama, please allow me to fall on my sword first – I willingly and loyally, leave the field to you. :)

"This is a far greater thing that I do than I have ever done" – Let's hope the fat lady has sung.

whats a board colour got to with it ?

what does having a board mean ?

not been an up river man myself !

Ahar me lovely, 'tis a secret only known to the Fenders Up Club and funny handshake society. Keeps them as furriners with green and black flags well away from Our River.

'tis awesome.

A good stream running through Staines today!

Poor little boat, covered in bits of tree, vibrating in the roaring torrent.
Got a current licence plate - good.

I well remember - when I was new to the River - I sat in an office opposite you listening to some exceedingly boring presentation and thought - that flow doesn't look all that bad??

It's not until one rushes upstream (or tries to) towards Gloomy Dave, that one realises the folly of venturing out in such conditions.

Can I gently remind everybody that this thread is for the reporting of specific river conditions and other urgent information and is not intended for general chit-chat/commentary?

If you've forgotten how it works read the first post in this thread HERE

;) River level has dropped over 10cm up here at Days overnight, need to check the boat doesn't get caught on the bank on the way down.
