thames estuary crossing

hi to you all, i am planning my first trip across the thames estuary towards the north foreland,
unlike sail boats
i draw 1 metre only so wondered if the crossing is straightforward. any recomendations gratefully recieved.

I used to leave from lowerstoft and go well outside long island ( N Shipwash)

Think I would aim for an early start to be through by 1100 am when the tide turns but thats because I prefer to cruise @ 25 calm waters against a 1 knt tide than 17 knots with 1 knot of tide push
