which is why i txt family friends when going or returning from foriegn also do the same on arrival + nthe CG 66 is lodged with Dover CG

Today I heard a message on 16 that surprised me. It was Solent Coastguard calling Hayling ILB. I was surprised because I was sailing in the Westerschelde. Either there were some freaky weather conditions or the CG had selected the wrong aerial.

This has long been the case. The CG will not go looking for you unless someone reports you as not having turned up.
But if you're going to file a passage plan, you might as well call them again to sign off when you get there.
(I was a local CG, by the way, until a couple of years ago).

I'm confused, I'll freely admit, because there seems to be at least two versions of what will happen circulating and a number of news articles and the like have recently been suggesting that it'll be Fareham. Entirely possible they've got it wrong of course
My 'version' (Thames area covered by NMOC at present, to be shared between Dover and Humber when Dover is joined to the new network in the Autumn) I had in writing from CG HQ back in the winter when we were compiling ECP Edn.4.
But I wouldn't have been told if anything had changed since.
 
I don't think that's quite as it will be. My understanding as of a few months ago from a reliable source was that the old Thames area will be shared between Dover and Humber, the dividing line being just S of the Blackwater estuary.

Well, again in my letter from CG HQ last winter mentioned in post no.24, it said that the dividing line is to be just S of the Blackwater, at 51deg 43'.2N. It was emphasised that this is not to be a hard and fast dividing line, simply a guide. It matters not a jot, whichever CG station you call at the time, Humber or Dover, you will get an answer, and yes it might still be the NMOC if Dover and Humber are both busy at the time. But until this time, you continue to call Thames.
 
Regrettably, the SCPCS who signed orf the reorg, will not be around when a serious incident hits the fan- I've seen it from the inside in another dept.= unable to get drunk in the RAM Brewery with a full set of keys.
2/3 years and the Teflon shoulder pads are off to screw up somewhere else.
Do you know, at the enquiry, it's somehow never their fault, just the poor sods trying to make it work.

As mentioned on another thread, the weather last weekend was preceded by "This is Shetland Coastguard" which grabs your attention as you sail down the Orwell :)
