I finally got a microwave for the boat...but I would only justify it if it saved space. So first to go was the kettle...the wife can make her tea by microwaving a cup of water...next was the milk heater thingy for making milky coffee...again easier in the micro...then the toaster went...the microwave has a toasting function....not ideal but it does work. Then the weather changed...I had completely forgotten about the hot water bottles...a few cold nights followed until...these arrived

They are a British invention...deliberately made the size of a dinner plate so they can go on the turntable...and while there are ones made of buckwheat etc, these are gel...safe and harmless. The only surprising thing is that they are not soft but solid like a discus but in a furry pouch.
They are being tested on land first...they are in my bed? and so far I am more than impressed...four minutes to heat (will be 7 in the smaller boat microwave) and gives off a toasty heat for what seems like forever. Available on eBay £20.99 (bit more here since B day)...got two, one for chest high and one for the feet. We only use two on the boat because the wife goes to bed long before me and she transfers them to my side before she falls asleep (or I go dig them out).
Will let you know in the morning ?

I reckon an electric fleece would be a better bet! I never got to use ours as we sold the boat before we had a chance!

Electric blanket was my original idea...but extremely difficult to find an over blanket with a euro plug. Also when the wife goes to bed she prefers the genny to be turned off (it’s actually a direct order disguised to look like I’m doing her a favor)

Buy the electric over blanket in the UK, cut the plug off and fit an euro plug or even just use an adaptor. I suppose you will use living in France as an excuse .......... ;)

I thought of that...but somehow it didn’t feel safe

I can only say that my experiment failed ☹️?....I went to bed hoping for a beautifully warm bed... but I found that my duvet looked like it had been rifled? and one of the hot water bottles missing ?... I searched...and there it was lying next to the wife....not even under any covers?
In the morning I demanded an explanation....she said she woke up, felt the warmth, thought I’ll have that...grabbed it and then fell asleep before she could bury it...
Anyhow...they kept giving off heat...even on the cold stone bedroom floor...they are now going to be taken to the boat...for their own safety
