Took her out today with Jim & Derek to test the port engine and to test Jims theory that it was the head gasket. By jove he was right she went like a steam train. well at least steam was all that seemed to come out of the zorsts this time.
Clocked 16.4 kts on gps (Byron wont believe that but i've got witnessess) on slack water down the medway.
Two negative things occurred one the lock gates where out of action upon our return so shes on the waiting pontoon, I just gets back home eating me dinner and they phone to say they've mended em. They offered to toe her in but I felt very nervous about that, I mean how do you control the aft end as you cross the 3knt stream toward the lock without engines, beats me. Going back tomorrow with Dereks help to take her in. (thanks Derek)
Second thing could'nt believe this, got past the speed limit sign past Gillingham but we're holding back picking our way through some raggies, us on the right side of the channel by red buoys when coming the other way between the raggies is a Princess 44 on the plane, heading sort of towards us.
So we thinks hold our course hes gotta move to his side of the channel, but he then veers to his port seemingly oblivious to us being the stand on vessel, and he in any case being on the wrong side of the channel, and cuts across our bows as if we are not there. So as we're discussing the less than desirable aspects of his seamanship, blow me if a Sealine appears and does the same thing.
So if you read this and know who you are GET SOME LESSONS. It was about 10-10.30 am today on the Medway downstream of Gillingham
Thank Jim & Derek for your help CGN
