Teak sealers

Hi Seastoke,

Can be a bit of a minefield but you can buy it almost everywhere. I would suggest your local marine carpenter as you only need a small area.
Local heros' Kwackers and Searush may be worth asking too.

You could even try TekDek or similar, some are very good now unless you must have the real thing.

A quick google came up with some other options too. Worth looking here for information and a guide::encouragement:

thanks ,rr

No problem, leaving doing the teak a bit longer this year , might go back to leaving them natural after the two part clean just to see how long they stay clean :), hope your swmbo op goes ok
Regards merlyn

They'll stay clean about the same about of time and will wash off with a little soap and sea water. Two weeks and they will be changing colour a little, four weeks and they will start to go silver grey.

There are more than a few owners that actually prefer the natural silver colour, especially on the classic older boats, but to me it makes the boat look older and less cared for.

Sealant, colour preservers are definitely a matter of personal preference. The colour you choose starts with how much brightener in part 2 you use and how long you leave it on for. After that, I prefer a natural 'new' boat show look. If it looks like it's painted then yuk.:disgust:

Which is exactly the problem with 'Semco' and 'Teak Wonder' when people use them for the first time. It takes a little practice to get it right and when you do they can look very good but they don't last a whole season, unfortunately.

Thanks, Hip ops' are a bit daunting but now very common, a couple of months and she'll be running round the decks again. ;)

Completely off sealer topic but just to say I do dog agility classes with our mutt, one of the ladies in our group had both hips done at the same time about 18months ago, she was back doing classes and running around the field better than before within about 6 months, not just getting about walking around, running round the course like the rest of us. Brilliant.

Thanks for that, I know quite a few people now that have had it done and all have been impressed with the return to fitness. 6 months is a long time if you're in pain but it soon goes.

Funnily enough, I used to train my last shepherd on agility, really good fun and even better for the dog. We could never tire her out on straight walks/runs but one hour of concentration through the hoops and tunnels was worth a 5 hour run. Great days, I miss her still... :(
Molly, the dog, not swmbo! ;)

Similar, I was recommended to use Dek Solje by a boatbuilder, it worked, so never tried anything else so I can't compare it with others. It is one of those very runny products that you keep painting over while wet and soaking in the raw wood until "She canna take any more, Skipper". That runny-ness was my undoing. A tin of gloopy varnish can be grabbed if you knock it over and most can be rescued. With this stuff it whooshes in a nanosecond so when I knocked the tin about £20 of Dek Solje was preserving the marina gravel in the blink of an eye.

We used to use Semco, in fact got a couple of un-opened tins about to go onto ebay as we have switched to Sarbrite Tropical Teak oil (Classic Teak) and am really impressed. A lot easier to apply than the Semco, also, just noticed if you but the 16oz tins they are 1/3 the price of the 32oz tins? PM anyone wanting a couple of tins of Semco. There is a pic of the deck when I had just finished one side on FB, but I will put up some pics in the next week as it has all settled into a really nice colour.

I've also tried just about every teak product and also now use Starbrite tropical teak oil, it outlasts any other product I've used and is the easiest to apply. To clean my decks I use Wessex but have just a few minutes ago finished washing off Tescos cheapest washing powder that I sprinkled yesterday afternoon and I have to say I'm very impressed by how clean they now look, all for just a few pence.
