I came across some quite entertaining videos from a guy who is crewing on a San Lorenzo (very nice). In one of them he is discussing teak cleaning: https://youtu.be/EYIj5S5UY9c
He is using a product called K2R for small stains and for bigger surfaces washing powder and vinegar for the finish.
I have some pretty big stains from olive oil on my teak (leaking from packaging). I have tried some turpentine (just on the wood) but that did not help enough. Next step I want to try is teak cleaner.
Does anyone have experience with K2R or the washing powder method?

I’ve used washing powder for a few years now, sometimes spreading it over the decks when I know it’s going to be wet, and then leaving it overnight. I’m always surprised by the amount of dirt that comes off. I give the decks a good sweep, with a very soft brush when it’s all wet and then rinse off. I’ve been very happy with the results. Never tried vinegar, I’ll have to watch the video to see what that’s all about.

Everyone in the med uses k2r. It’s great at removing oily stains from teak. Every med shop sells it but you can probably amazon it in UK.

We got on to K2R by our boat neighbours who used it to clean up some butter stains on their teak. It is sold widely in France and yes you can buy on Amazon for about twice the French price.

We used it for some stains on our teak and it is very good!

Jared Watney's videos are very entertaining and worth watching if you are interested in life aboard a (small!) superyacht

I have been using K2R on my teak deck for years since a recommendation on this forum and it works a treat removing stains. Its pretty aggressive so I'm not sure I'd use it on other materials like carpets. It sells on Amazon

Waddumean "formerly"? Did I miss an administrator's permanent ban, or summink?

I think he meant the MoBo forum of which tcm was indeed a founder member but of course he has gone over to the dark side now

That's a real shame, his writing was unparalleled.

So was his purple leather trench coat;)

A little story about tcm. We rented a berth from him in La Napoule in 2003 and he kindly invited us out on his Leopard for the day. He dropped the hook off Theoule and after much drinking proceeded to don this home made jacket thing with a massive shark fin strapped to the back which he had constructed earlier. He them swam around the bay like something out of Jaws scaring the bejasus out of everyone. I've never seen something so funny in my life:D

He is a great guy and the forum is poorer without him

He's still firing on all cylinders - I've been in touch with him plenty during last few weeks regarding various crazy schemes. Latest (in support of IT economy) is he wants to buy a new huracan 50/50 with me for a few years and in time for next summer. I keep it at my place in France, he has it for August, I have it for the rest of the year. His only ask is that it is orange or lime green, or possibly that light blue colour :) This idea tells you that he's in good form :D

One of his more recent stories here on the forum was about a Lambo that he'd rented in or near St Trop. Ended up going backwards across a roundabout and into a tree or something, was very hilarious the way he wrote it.

Ps jfm, you absolutely must. And then use it for the Carrefour run :D

The videos are very entertaining indeed. Very well shot and edited.

In this video https://youtu.be/OsDYYF4vT-A he is flushing the Williams tender in the garage. He first starts the engine before connecting the hose as the water pressure could cause damage to parts of the engine. Also when ready the water supply is stopped first and the engine continues until there no water coming out. This sequence sounded very counterintuitive to me as you would want to avoid the engine to be without cooling water. Is this different for jet tenders?

If you run the water without the engine running then you risk water running back up the exhaust into the cylinders. His procedure is correct.

Any marine engine relies on it being running to keep the exhaust cooling water out.
