Hi Guys

My hustler has a taylors 029. Right burner works really well and has never been a problem. The left burner leaked a tiny bit at the junction with the supply line which made lighting it difficult and of course over time a little paraffin leaked in to the oven. Not ideal. I removed the burner and replaced it with a new burner as there was a spare with the boat. New burner insitu and does not leak. All good so far. It lights perfectly and burns with a blue flame. The problem is that 3 minutes later, without fail it will be out. The flame slowly diminishes and dies and no amount of tapping at the base or pricking with the cleaning needle helps. Any ideas? I was wondering if there was an obstructionin the feed pipe that expanded as the thing heated up causing an obstruction? Any thoughts.

The beauty of the Taylors is you can take apart the burner for a service yourself easily, just requires patients.

I would suggest contacting SeaSure who will no doubt unless you can convince them you are trade send you to a retailer and ask them for instructions and service parts. You will probably find after a good service it will be fine...

Also get the jet key and burner key. Replacement jets are cheap as chips, and it sounds like you may have a blocked or damaged one. Just make sure when removing the burner and jet you support the pipe on the bottom, by clamping the nut with something so you dont damage the pipe as that really is a struggly to replace /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have an 030 So I have experienced all of this and confirm the feeling of achievement when you have serviced all the burners and it not longer flames from where it shouldn't is great!

Also make sure you haven't over-filled the parafin tank, as that will also stop it from working at random intervals.

sounds v odd

Assuming the replacement burner is new and pressure is maintained at the tank then I would look towards the security of the jet in the burner (?did you fit the jet) and also the fitment of the cleaning needle assembly within the jet - it may be that it is sitting one notch too high giving a restricted flow at the jet. Send me a pm if you do not have the manual and I'll let you have a PDF.

Incase anyone is interested due to revamping the galley area on my boat I will shortly be selling a very little used Taylors 030 oven complete with spares.
Anyone interested e-mail me

I have had a 030 Taylor cooker for many years, and had many mysterious faults. I have found that it is most important to ensure that the fuel is well filtered. Also is your fuel always stored in rust free containers, as the kerosene can absorb water which will introduce rust into the fuel. My boat which is an Ebbtide 33 originally had installed a steel kerosene tank, so I always filtered the fuel through coffee filters to ensure it was uncontaminated. I have recently replaced the storage tank with a polyproplenetank, I also run the fuel through a fuel filter and water trap prior to supplying the presurised tank. this might seem extreme, but it's preferable to fidling with cooker when you want to get on with the cooking

Sounds to me like the small balancing jet in the end of the fuel line has a blockage in it. This will give exactly the symptoms you describe. Only solution is to remove the burner again, and then unscrew the balancing jet from the end of the fuel line and check it is clear. This jet is narrower across the flats than the burner jet, but can normally be removed with a pair of needle nose pliers used carefully. Blow it through with a blast of compressed air, or an old pricker needle if you have one handy, and re-install the burner using a new alloy washer. Hope this helps!
