Can any one tell me how to get to the back of the tacho on my fairline Targa 31. The port side never gives more than the odd flicker and I need to check it out. If I have to remove the cabin head lining how is this fixed?
Can I get the tacho repaired?

Volvo have an agreement with VDO who make the insturments that they are not allowed to repair Volvo Tachos.

The new cost of one of these is 189 quid.

I had asimilar problem on a boat and it was a faulty connection but both went on my current boat and 2 x 189 !

They have to be programmed after fitting to match engine.

Strange. VDO Mannesman in Birmingham reconditioned mine. No questions asked. I think it was less than £50 inc. P&P

I had a similar problem on my Targa 30/33. I couldn't find any headlining in the
rear cabin that was removeable so from the cockpit I unscrewed the 6 screws
holding the dashboard facia. This could then be pulled forward with all the clocks
still attached, giving me the access I needed.

I opted to recondition my tacho as I wanted to preserve the engine hours so
it matched the other tacho. I sent the unit to a company called Speedy Cables
who charged approx £50 + VAT for the job.

I don't have the contact details to hand, but if you look up Speedy Cables using
www.yell.com their Hertfordshire office will be displayed. Give them a call and they
will refer you to their instruments division (which relocated to somewhere in Wales).
