A while ago I remember a thread about tank gauges, probably from Vas and I seem remember someone posting a pressure based system so screw it in at the base of the tank and it gives a reading of volume after setting it up. It was possibly petem who posted it. At the time I though awesome I'll bear that in mind for my tank that I have no hatch / access to the top. Now I can't find it..

Any ideas? Any suggestions as to what is out there? The only thing I can find is a resettable flow meter that goes in line and gives a count down of litres remaining

Steve,

I'm using such a system but it's from a domotic company here in greece that I got it. Further, it's just a sensor giving a 0-5V output (iirc) in a linear fashion, not something you can use directly on existing gauges without interfering some logic (some type of microcontroller- and that's what I'm doing but again I'm feeding that back to NMEA2000 not to a single gauge)
I vaguely remember someone posting on a ready made thing, but didn't pay much attention...

I have had these on three boats now, accurate to 1/4 inch. You need to calibrate your tank from empty and draw a graph.

how come, only got fw tank on one side???
Exactly, on the port side 320 L .
The tank is full now and if I’m only wearing socks I slide to port
At half full the boat is nicely trimmed. Next week I should (fingers crossed) get my passerelle fitted. It’s only aluminium but I’m putting it on the starboard side so I hope it helps

don't you have space to get one of these flask things like Bart uses for fuel on the stbrd side to balance things a bit?
800lt is a lot!
How are your diesel tanks organised? are they balanced?

Yes, my mistake it’s only 320!!!
The diesel (which really is 800L) is amidships and just the one tank.
Originally I tried to offset the generator but the engineer couldn’t do it so that is also amidships.
I have a huge amount of room for an extra water tank on the starboard side but it’s not a job I’d be interested in unless I was going to made the toilet fresh water flush

two birds with one stone!
do the freshwater flush, get rid of one (I assume!) thruhull and get a second tank (of course connected to the port one) in place, job done.
I'm also in the process of converting to freshwater flush and replacing one of the crappy electric jabsco jobs with a Tecma.

Have you posted yet about the fresh water conversion? I would be very interested ?

nope, really need to get my act together and start posting on the rebuilt thread, have a few things done, and planning to start working on a few upgrades when the weather warms a bit more (got to work on lining the f/b and I'm NOT doing it now even when it's sunny like today.

If you can’t be arsed what hope do the rest of us have ?
We need you for inspiration ??

Dear Bouba,
unlike some others in here, I do have to work (occasionally...) just happens that all the workload of the academic year is on me Nov onwards. Things should relax at the end of Feb (I hope!)

It’s the fact that you do have a high powered career and a family that makes your exploits so compelling!
We have a saying, if you want something done give it to a busy man!
Look at me, all the time in the world and all I have to show for it are lots of half started projects ☹️

a few years ago we have installed Philippi gauges with pressure sensors, as explained in this thread,

Fitting level sensors and display for Fuel, water and blackwater tanks

we bought the parts direct from Philippi in Germany, and had good service from them.
system is still working fine,
(exept the sonar sensor in the black tank, wich is not alway's accurate)
and following Barts suggestion I got the IR black tank sensor and after 3yrs messing I finalised s/w setup exporting N2K sentences and got it running. Relative accurate it is, not very

Hi Vas

That is exactly what I am looking at but I was hoping I could add it to the victron VenusOS stuff as Im just getting a system running using this and a rasberry pi 3B and it will have a 7" touch screen. Unfortunately the Pi doesnt have analog inputs and I believe the code in venus OS was written for resistive.. I could be wrong though. I'm just having a look in my very un-knowledgable way though to see if I can use an Arduino to read the pressure gauge and pass this through to the PI - The Victron interface has the ability to see 3x tank levels - temperature ect. I'll be using it to talk to my Multiplus and BMV so was just seeing what else I could use it for.
