I need a small amount of tan sailcloth, dacron is it? Not sure, nor of the weight etc, but I only need a few inches to sew over a slightly chafed leech. Do any of you good people have any tips or advice as to where I might be able to pick up an offcut?

I should add (and couldn't edit the question as time had expired) that I am stuck in the middle of Hertfordshire so wondered if anyone knew of a handy ONLINE place where bits of sailcloth can be had. I can do the Google search etc (obviously) so I'm only after info from your experience, if you've had any. Many thanks.

I have experimented mixing water-based ferric red metal primer with linseed oil and painting it onto several different fabrics, including dacron. The samples remain pliable after several years and are pretty much the tan colour I was after. I intend using this to convert grubby old white dacron sails to work-boat type tan sails.
Even if only for a temporary repair it might get you sailing abit quicker.

cheers

Now I did have a little bit in the shed but I don't remember seeing it for a while. If you can wait until tomorrow morning, I'll have a look and post back by lunchtime.

Hi
I bought a used tan sail on ebay last year to use to repair my sails and make covers for things, but I haven't used it yet, I hope to check my sails in the next few days to see if any work is required on them. If I have to cut up the sail I can let you have a piece, how much do you need?
