Hi,

My p45 seems to have an intermittent problem on the flybridge Port throttle. It works fine usually but at ramdom moments (usually the most scary time possible) it drops offline and returned the engine to idle (1000RPM). The error message it gives is 2.7. I looked this up in the manual and it pointed to a problem with the potentiometer in the throttle control. So I tried replacing the whole throttle unit. Same thing happened!.

Have now researched on web and seen post from Aviator (and others) on similar problems (have PM's him) but no fix stated. Desperation now setting in as annual hols starting at the end of the week and would like to get it fixed...Any ideas?

BTW have checked the wiring and added many cable ties etc..still happens?

I had exactly that problem, and it was the potentiometer (no need to buy a new throttle unit by the way, the potentiometer is standard Bosch, only a few quid and easily changed, or you can just turn it round and it normally works again). I assume you calibrated the new throttle unit? If so, and as you've changed it and still have the problem, it suggests an issue at the other end with the CPU where it talks to the potentiometer, this could explain the false error code.

I'd expect a VP technician could sort it this week and have you up and running for the weekend, so shouldn't affect your hols.

Look at the 2 8 pin blocks on the engines, injector pump side, part them and look for corrosion, also look at the big round pin plug that screws into the governor housing, check all connection from the pot sensors through the loom to each y connector to the edc module, and if you have the separate neutral/diagnosis/ sync buttons on the helms look for corrosion there, any bad wiring will thow up faults that are not necessarily the pot sensor because the diagnosis system isnt clever enough to pin point the exact part thats failed.

Where me spanner

Thanks for the Tips guys. I will investigate the wiring and MS units next ..
And book a volvo engineer to have a look at her.:-)

Cant spend my whole hols inside can I
