TAMD63

I am looking into a Princess 415 with TAMD63 1989

What is the verdict for this engine? good or bad?

Thanks in advance

Tom
Good! Older mechanically governed design, but generally regarded as a good engine. I had 2 of them and did 600 hours with no problems; plenty others on here have them or have had them. In line 6.

Comes in 2 versions: 63P = 370hp (I had these) and 63L at around 310hp but I don't remember the exact hp figure.

The early 415's had 60c at launch, then 61A and late models had the option of 71A and possibly B's
If it is 63P or L in this 1989 model it must be a refit at a later time or wrong description.

We also ran them in a Phantom 42. No big issues. Had a couple of oil lines give up the ghost which caused a bit of a mess and also had a stop solenoid fail. Obviously old technology compared to modern engines - less black magic, more smoke

I am on second boat with Volvo Penta 63P's 370 hp, A truck derived engine, all mechanical non common rail, look after it and it will look after you.

These were produced by the thousand for commercial and leisure with very very few problems.

Like anything else you need to consider a revision of the parts likely to fail, injection bends etc. and replace them not big bucks.

I wish they still made them.

You get the impression because its a 26year old lump of GRP for only £55K its the equivalent of the that line of old px's you find hidden round the back of posh car dealerships :)

Not forgetting that 'only' £55k still buys you a pretty posh car these days:D
