Taking the ground on River Dart

I’m looking for advice based on experience of putting a 9 metre bilge keeler onto the shore for a quick hull and propeller scrub. Where is it best done on the Dart?

Can't help with the Dart, but there is a decent scrubbing pad in Brixham inner harbour with water and electricity.

There's a very popular scrubbing grid just upstream of town quay. Ask the harbour master for details and booking.

When visiting the Dart in the catamaran we used to dry out in Old Mill creek. Can't really remember how muddy/hard it was.

Loads of places. Pretty much all of the shore line from Dittisham upstream. What I would do is go and have a pint or three in the Ferry Boat Inn before low tide and see if the beach is OK for you. If not, then try the same at the River Shack in Stoke Gabriel. If that's no good, or if you just want to be thorough and you should be, so do it again in The Maltsters up the Harbourne River. (Muddy there).

I dried mine out just below where the lower ferry lands on the Dartmouth side.

Pretty much all of the shore line from Dittisham upstream

Watch out for the shellfish infrastructure that shows at low water and covers most of that shoreline from what we saw!

I would imagine the biggest problem in Dartmouth itself would be the amount of wake waves while going from floating to aground

There was a 9m bilge keeler dried out last week just in front of the sailing club clubhouse at Dittisham. You need a spring tide and check for a good location at low tide but it is mostly gently sloping gravel at the top and mud further down. Avoid the area near the gate to the car park as it is very muddy. Car park by the foreshore or free on the road up the hill and the Ferry boat inn a short walk away. You can drive along top of the foreshore to your boat but make sure you get out before high tide or you will be cut off.

i have seen a bilge keeler dry out to scrape near our mooring but need to be careful. go from the higher ferry south along the rail track. have a look at low tide. there is a small gravelly bit half way to the creek which could do also the corner by the higher ferry . also the beach by the lower ferry(kingswear side) but its tiny and steep. creekside boatyard do good prices for a lift and scrub on a spring tide. also depending on your draft, dave distin can lift bilge keelers up to 1.5m draft and 27ft to scrub..
