Some quite big boats up there. It is a really interesting trip up the Ship Canal and Ellesmere Port is well worth stopping off at , Marsh Lock into the Weaver Navigation and up river to Northwich. You do need a licence for a couple of days but not expensive also certification that boat is seaworthy and has relevant fire extinguishers etc on board, also a radio to communicate with the ship canal navigation control particularly at Eastham Locls. The lock guys and bridge swinging operatives going ahead in a van is quite entertaining. They are also very helpful.oh wow - can sailboats get all the way up to Northwich ?
