Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

You mention that the hull is in reasonable condition - did you have a full ultrasound survey carried out on it?
If you didn't, then you could easily be chucking good money after bad.

Re propulsion, would it be possible to operate her with just the aft DP thruster (or is this offset from centreline)?

Please don't go for pump jets, despite the dubious attraction of shallow(er) draft - they will be a lot more hassles and headaches than a pair of conventional shafts with propellers. I presume that there must be some type of keel with deadrise and / or rake, hence you might even be able to keep the propeller depth inside the overall draft of the hull.

Outstanding advice.

2x SPJ135s have just been removed from the order book.

Thank you. This is the stuff this forum is for!

The aft thruster is off the centreline due to the placement of the main engine. It can work as a get home backup. But the main engine is better.

Once the NAs get back, I will have more answers, and no doubt far more questions...!

Thank you again.

Well I'm for one very disappointed that you have been unable to (or are too busy to) posting a simple pic of your good self holding a newspaper or with the forum on display on an iPad etc.

It is very obvious from the posts on here that people are concerned on being conned here.

Of course with you working in the area of digital transactions you'll understand that the concept of trust is key in any interaction and transaction for non-repudiation and regulatory reasons; the same can be said for any interaction on this forum. We all expect the highest degree of trust, credibility. Otherwise each comment or recommendation is worthless.

If you have concerns posting a very public photo (which I can understand in your position) then can I suggest that you send a pic with current newspaper to JFM on this forum via a private message.

JFM is clearly respected in this forum, and your quick, simple and private pic to him would easily be sufficient to put all this concern over your credentials to bed.

And then, as I have said before, we can all then get down to the more important subject of sharing interesting anecdotes and guidance on boating subjects rather than the rather boring subject of your credibility (on this forum).

I for one am looking forward to a short and simple message from JFM to say that we can continue the conversation as to your amazing refit project with agusto!

Fair points.

If JFM is agreeable... So am I. Photo taken, despite it being 5.44am here at present.

JFM, confidentiality request - please agree to partake, and also not share the pic. Sorry in advance for the pic, which is not as great as Henry's from Witherspoon's.

This said... I don't really owe anyone all this extra information... Surely this is clear to everyone here? What's the cost of being conned? I've got lots of questions about very specific things, like, "are pump-jets any good" - people can either answer that or ignore it. Why on earth would someone ask that if it weren't useful?

Anyway... For the third or 4th time, I'll comply. However... Beyond this, a fairly considerable number of very nice people have been Private messaging me since the start sharing their enjoyment of this thread, despite the trolling I'm getting... which is why I continue.

It's almost time for a crewing moment. I hope to have the VPPs approved by next weekend... So at least three people I've met on this forum are coming... And at this point.. those are the only ones who really need to know if this is real or not... Otherwise they'll have nowhere to sleep for a few days..!

Good news re the ultrasound survey.

You mentioned "The aft thruster is off the centreline due to the placement of the main engine. It can work as a get home backup. But the main engine is better.

Would it be feasible to simply install another thruster unit on the other side (to balance the existing one), along with a suitable engine?

This might be easier than ripping everything out and installing a pair of engines with either jets or shafts.

Edit - pump jets have their advantages over conventional shafts for certain types of boats, but in your case I can see no advantage at all.

Thank you. Really interested in this at the moment... As its a €250,000 question right now.

Both the huge thrusters need to go. And 200hp ones put back...

I'm not 100% convinced on an aft one. But the answer is yes if possible.

There would be so much work involved in setting a 2nd aft thruster of the same magnitude equally balanced. It's huge.... as in, larger than the main propulsion.

Why all the games ? If you are as famous as you make out, the media in the financial world would love this and surely it would be detrimental to you?

I'm trying to avoid becoming famous for the wrong reasons..... I'm not at all famous so far, and am happy like that. I am really good at my job, which is why all these meetings... I'm not sure these kinds of people meet with general celebrities, anyway...

There are three things I'd like.

(1) share some fun and get some help with a boat project.
(2) make some new friends.
:
(3) not give out much personal data on the internet.

This is all. I thought I might get 6 views and maybe one reply... So I didn't ask for all the attention.... :( But for some it's been fun. And for me it's been interesting and unexpected.

Did you mean "not" detrimental to you?

Sort of like this...?

This is nuts. This guy might very be a troll, or he might not - but who are you to start insisting that people start proving their rw identities to you? I'm not aware of anyone else on this forum who has been required to do this - and rightly so. What a load of nonsense. (And you're asking jfm to act as some kind of identity administrator ... have you agreed this with him? Or even asked him?). Jeez.

Your right, apologies JFM for not seeking your approval to assist with this.

I'm sitting in the middle with this one; but there are plenty on this forum who believe we are being trolled, and my suggestion is a simple a quick way of resolving it so that we can all go back to focussing on boat related rather than troll related content.

Well, according to post #725, there is now at least one of us who received a proof, whether he wanted or not.
In jfm boots, I'd rather bin the PM without opening it - and I hope he will not disclose its content, anyway.
The identity drama is possibly the most entertaining part of this thread... :D
