Cruise Reports Taking our yacht to Sweden for the summer - any 50m marinas?

Well, if it’s not a wind up, it’s the most boring project thread ever. A photoshop and some dodgy drawings.....carp

Not one scatter cushion discussion or underwater light specification thread......booooring :)

. The guy is incredibly busy with his business, probably spends most of his life jetlagged so ...
Well that's sort of circular isn't it? You're taking his claims as evidence that the claims are true. Maybe he isn't busy at all, which is why he has time to grab pictures from the net, faff about amending them in MS Paint/P'shop, then post them on here pretending they're his yacht. It would be much less time consuming to grab a pic of his actual yacht with his phone, wouldn't it?

Hello Team...

Yep, have been busy. All the questions have answers. Except the spelling of things. Can't explain that.

If you Google me, you'll see why I've been tied up.... Here's a teaser.

Lols. We love teasers here... At least on this thread.

Those kind enough to give me the benefit of the doubt are all kind, and accurate. Those in doubt are less on the mark, but skepticism is always welcome.

Also... Here's an official whose name is very close to home... This was a meeting last week.... Can't tell you the location of it though.

Remembering the fields I work in, this is pretty close to a custard test... Else the elaborate detail of this alleged trolling is off the chart!

Jeez. It’s doesn’t take much to bring out the worst in people.
Seems to me that the OP, at worst, is having some harmless fun - at absolutely no-ones expense; other than his own. At best and taken at his word, it’s a great story of too much money and not enough time.

He’s far less a Troll than some on here are playground bullies - just my opinion.

This is a forum about boats.
If you're building a boat, show us or go away.. off.
Only my opinion btw

Hi ColHel from Gillingham.

Forgive me.

This thread was about a 50m boat looking for a place in Sweden. Then someone showed and interest in the boat, not the question, and I didn't have any pictures, and said it was a work in progress.

Then I posted a pic I'd done myself, of what I wanted it to look like, following completion... Stating clearly that this was not the boat, but some design-phase concept.

Ever after that, it's not been about boats, but a bit of a swinging contest of who knows more about reality - somewhat related to the existence of the 50m or not - or whether anyone with a 50m boat in build would discuss it (and parts of their life and background) here.

This is actually a friendly forum, for people with enthusiasm about boats. There are threads about brexit, Anzac, and a lot more.

This one is about a boat. A shadow boat. My first boat. And the story of building it.... And so far... the forum seems to like that I post updates... Even if they are abnormal.

Yes, last week I met with central bank governors and prime minister. I actually won a medal too, which I'm being conferred with next month.

Also, I was in Forbes, the wall street Journal, not sure what else last week... Which explains why I don't have the time or regularity to post at ten to six every night, or to take pics of the boat. And connects the project to reality, a little.

Plus, this is just the shadow boat. And an experimental one. I'm enjoying the project. I don't get out much at work, and this is a surreal but lively version of going to the pub and having a lively conversation over a beverage or two. :)

There's an easy way to sort this, and much easier than a photo with some custard.

We know what you look like (it's in the press), so to prove it really is you, get a mate/partner/staff member to take a picture of you holding one of today's newspapers (doesn't matter which one) with you pointing specifically at the date on the front page.

That's what they used to do with hostages etc to show proof of life.

Dead easy, quickly done, no hassle, and then we can all go back to talking about boats!

Precisely. That's what this forum is for all of us, most of the time.
The fact that it's also a way to stay in touch with some folks previously met in non-virtual places is just incidental.

Don't get distracted by the requests about your identity, which in a sense is irrelevant.
Some of us (I for one) don't care a jot whether a forumite spends most of his/her time with prime ministers or just his/her own friends, or also alone for that matter, as long as there's some common interest to debate.

Stay focused on the ship, and tell us more about her progress.
Oh, and also about that 80' wooden yacht in Viareggio, which sounds even more intriguing! :encouragement:

Perhaps we should all calm down and put the kettle on:)

A little unnecessary perhaps ?
There’s better things to very about in the world. If the OP is genuine (and I hope he is) I look forward to seeing the progress, if not I do not intend to loose any sleep over it.

The last Marinetraffic position was recorded on the 20th May, 5 days before Capital's last post above.

Capital-R, you lead quite a life ! Just to clear up some of the details, as I'm a bit confused between mentions of builds, launches, and shadow boats. Is it correct that he vessel you are converting first is the Guard Aleta presently owned by Tananger Offshore AS? Isn't she a bit old to convert, and a bit small? I know that boats of that era often have very strong hulls as steel was cheaper, but these photos seems to show a pretty battered up hull? I take it from the drawings you will replace the engines with some sort fo 360 degree pod thing? It looks almost a cheap just to start from scratch?

This is fantastic! :D

So rather than simply posting a selfie in front of a computer screen or iPad showing this forum (which would take all of five seconds) you've made a little collage of lots of press reports relating to Robert Bell and posted a photo of a name tag saying 'Mr. Bell'? :D

It's not like it's a secret who you are claiming to be, or what who you are claiming to be looks like, so why not just prove it?

If, in fact, you're able to do so...

My PR people do the collages.

I'm nowhere near the boat at the moment. Hence no custard.

There are a couple of people on this forum who do know me. I'd rather not do a high res selfie.

At least, not until after the 16th November. Pending how well this coming Friday goes.

Sorry. Lots on. If you can be bothered, I hope it's okay to extend me some trust until then. My ID isn't that important to you, at least not as important as not posting much on the internet is to me.

Apologies for the stand-off.

Capital-R, you lead quite a life !

Hi Ocean Spirit!

One and the same. I'm still exploring the outer limits of my comfort in sharing. But yes.. it's a strange boat to begin with.

The background is: she was purchased to assist with a company I have, in the Pacific. The need wasn't there anymore, and she's not worth a lot, so I thought, given how lovley she is, and the excellent condition of her... I'll experiment with her as a private yacht, rather than dump her. I coin the term "Recreational Ship" - now that I know her more,as it seems more appropriate than yacht.

So here begins a very long saga of getting ahead of myself, asking stupid questions, and being treated like a fool.

Most of her work is from 1988, and again from 2001; so she's a bit younger than she seems.

The hull isn't too bad. Certainly not if the plan is to use her for an adventure boat or a shadow boat.

She had two huge DP thrusters. The forward one is now removed, the aft one will be soon too. Replaced with shallow draft 360° pump-jets. We'll see.

50m is plenty too big for my first boat... So I'll leave that comment there.

She was owned by Tananger until a year ago. Now it's me.

And she's already blue.

Part 1 is being done now...

Here's a pic.received_10154945824214639.jpeg

Phase two... I hope we'll have the Naval Architecture by Friday.

We'll see. I might even post them here.

Then I posted a pic I'd done myself, of what I wanted it to look like, following completion... Stating clearly that this was not the boat, but some design-phase concept.

I think one of the things that set people off was that "not an actual photo yet. This was off the design phase" (taken from original post #10) is a sophisticated sounding term that made people (myself included) think it was meant to be something a naval architect/design studio had put together, when it looked like a non-professional mashup of online pics from other projects. When you say it was done by yourself as an aspirational sketch it makes sense.

That's fair. I should have said "this is me messing around on Paint, it's all I've got now, but it shows where the vision is headed".

Lols... So much pain avoided....!

Well I'm for one very disappointed that you have been unable to (or are too busy to) posting a simple pic of your good self holding a newspaper or with the forum on display on an iPad etc.

It is very obvious from the posts on here that people are concerned on being conned here.

Of course with you working in the area of digital transactions you'll understand that the concept of trust is key in any interaction and transaction for non-repudiation and regulatory reasons; the same can be said for any interaction on this forum. We all expect the highest degree of trust, credibility. Otherwise each comment or recommendation is worthless.

If you have concerns posting a very public photo (which I can understand in your position) then can I suggest that you send a pic with current newspaper to JFM on this forum via a private message.

JFM is clearly respected in this forum, and your quick, simple and private pic to him would easily be sufficient to put all this concern over your credentials to bed.

And then, as I have said before, we can all then get down to the more important subject of sharing interesting anecdotes and guidance on boating subjects rather than the rather boring subject of your credibility (on this forum).

I for one am looking forward to a short and simple message from JFM to say that we can continue the conversation as to your amazing refit project with agusto!
