Tablet to run Open CPN and AIS

Looking to get a reasonably priced Tablet to run Open CPN with AIS input.With a Sim Card access and expandable memory.
What do folks suggest

GPS data source for a tablet with a sim card is a bit of a red Herring, it's pretty certain that the tablet would have inbuilt GPS.

Why do you want one with a SIM card ?

You'll need to send the AIS data via wifi, so you'll need something to connect to the NASA for that.

If you don't actually need the SIM facility, look on Ebay at the 10" Lenovo tablets, Argos are usually selling refurbed ones for about £80

Have a look a Londonchartplotters website , they use refurbed machines an expensive tablet is not needed as CPN does not run heavy on the tablet (my thoughts)
only a happy browser

My Android Sony Xperia is water-resistant, runs free OpenCPN, has GPS built in (although I don't use it for AIS) and receives AIS data + GPS over wifi.

If you can pick up one of them cheap on eBay you'll be laughing.

You do need an AIS receiver and connect to the tablet through wifi. maybe you will like this, it also have a build in GPS receiver.

Thats pricey check out yakbitz.com for the wifi bit, I have one connected to a nasa ais engine and it was a doddle to set up, works well with android and marine navigator so should be fine with any other android app.
