SYH to infil up to Loom Pit.

SYH have been granted permission by the MMO to pump dredge spoil onto the river bed between the harbour and the Loom Pit. They have only just been granted permission so I expect that is why they kept quiet about the massive flooding during the storm surge. Next time we have a storm surge there will be a lot more water without anywhere to go and regardless of their propaganda they will flood again but maybe a little more :-(

As the spoil is coming from inside the marina basin (and therefore under the water), how can where it gets dumped cause a greater risk of flooding than if it remained in situ?

From memory they often dumped the sludge there abouts.

They have built the ground up over the years and dug a hole for the harbour. That in effect was built on the river bed. Now they want to build up more of the river bed probably to build something else. IBC owns the river bed at this point and they don't appear to realise that rather important point. The ownership of the river bed was put beyond doubt during the Ipswich Moorings case

Because SYH is actually built on land I have known since I was a lad and it never did belong to anyone other than IBC who take my taxes. It is not only SYH that causes me misery though I don't like Felixtowe Dock nor what is happening at Ipswich Dock where the Government is forcing IBC to build even more residential buildings for the benefit of ABP and Goldman Sachs. Fox's is also a PITA as is the West Bank development. So much stuff has been built out into the river there soon will not be anywhere to sail as the money bags with their gin palaces and helicopters move here. Cheerful bugger ain't I

That and Felixstowe Dock is the cause of much misery too. The lanes are much too narrow and there are only two in each direction. There is definitely more room on the river than over it. As a lad I would only see barges making their way on the river. Obviously there were bigger boats but they had no personality. Felixstowe Dock was actually known as Walton and Felixstowe was down closer to the Deben. The village/Hamlet known as Orwell was about two miles off shore. Peter Scott the naturalist skippered an MTB out of the dock basin at Walton/Felixstowe and gunnery practise and flying boats such as Sunderlands were common.
