SWMBO\'s and other lady forumites

Sitting here mid afternoon with the lawn mower ready to use but little inclination to turn it on I just glanced at the recent posts. As usual, all male. So I had a look at who was online and saw several ladies listed. So, how many of us are there out there, either boat owners or SWMBO's. And do you have any pertinent (or (especially) impertinent) comments about 'other half's' or HWMBO's?
Do spill the beans!!

Re: SWMBO\'s and other lady forumites

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost. He reduced altitude and spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more and shouted,
"Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."
The woman below replied, "You're in a hot air balloon hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between 59 and 60 degrees west longitude."
"You must be an engineer," said the balloonist.
"I am," replied the woman, "How did you know?"
"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is, technically correct, but I've no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I'm still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all. If anything, you've delayed my trip."
The woman below responded, "You must be in Management."
"I am," replied the balloonist, "but how did you know?"
"Well," said the woman, "you don't know where you are or where you're going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep, and you expect people beneath
you to solve your problems. The fact is you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault......??????!!!!!!

Re: SWMBO\'s and other lady forumites

Sometimes feel that Scuttlebutt is a bit of a 'boy's club' that I've wandered into....but I work with all men too so am used to the laddish behavour...find the PBO forum really useful and that's where I do most of my posting.

There's many a thread on Scuttlebutt I could respond to, but the lambasting I might receive puts me off.

I also get a little tired of the idea that all SWMBO are either dictators, loath sailing, or are complete wimps....and if the guys are as boorish for real as they sometimes are here I understand why their partners don't want to sail with them!

But on the whole, it whiles away some otherwise dull work time.

Is this a 'girlie' thread or can the 'lads' join in and give you a good lambasting - wait a minute - lamb basting - it is a girlie thread - its about cooking isn't it?

Yes,Scuttlebutt is typically "laddish" but leaning more towards old laddish,I usually stick to the sailing posts and leave the rest alone.............

Think the problem with post's as well as emails is that the non-verbal communication is missing, the body language and verbal intonation etc. Just get stuck in, the truth is that all men are wee boys at heart and like the cut and thrust of the playground with the odd fight.. although most actually think life is a lot more serious than that!

'and if the guys are as boorish for real as they sometimes are here I understand why their partners don't want to sail with them!'

Actually having been on a couple of the meets - Cherbourg and Weymouth - I can now officially state that the guys are really not as bad as they make out - especially when their wives were there (Weymouth) one would have wondered if these were the same people who posted all those comments about SWMBO's. Very demure....

It's like all things I suppose give and good as you get with regard to all the sarcasm etc.

So guys stop trying to be real tough macho men and get in touch with your 'feminine' side as you know you are all softies at heart!

Re: SWMBO\'s and other lady forumites

Morning

Some of the lads here do seem a little confused ...........

They talk about girlie threads then spend ages discussing what fabric to use for their curtains/cushions. Not to mention the threads that discuss the colour for a new sail cover or bimini. Personally I don't mind the banter, and I am fairly girlie- but I work in a very "male" business, so I'm used to it to. But I can't always be bothered to translate some the posts in dialect ...... you know who I mean!

We don't have a boat ...yet .... would have had one this year but HWMBO ;0) keeps inisting we spend the money on the house, something to do with the roof leaking?? I would have got a boat instead, but that is probably a bit short sighted.

But seriously like alot of the lads say treat Scuttlebutt like the pub. You'll meet some lovely people .....and some not so lovely. You'll get some good advice, hear some good stories, might even hear a good joke from time to time. There will also be some people who you really don't want to get to know, just like in a real pub.

When I've asked for advice I've usually got some very helpful comments and suggestions. And for anyone worried about a post getting a less than useful response make sure you do a search of past messages first. The posts that seem to get ignored or attract negative comments are ones that crop up all the time or seem lazy.

Sometimes I just feel abit left out - not because I'm a girlie but because we are in Manchester.

Ruth

PS - This is truely girlie but think I have found out how not to break nails while sailing, let me know if you want the secret, now if I can just figure out how to avoid the bruises!

<how not to break nails while sailing>

Oooo, pray tell. We had another nail fracturing incident to deal with onboard this weekend. Also, the frying pan was too small to cook 4 breakfasts at once.

Should we have put out a Pan-Pan?

Re: cookery advice

the pan only need to be large enough to do the fried eggs. The bacon, mushrooms, sausages are all done in same pan before, stick in another pan or tin in the oven on low to keep hot, with the plates. The beans are in a sepret pan, warmed fast, then do the eggs. When eggs nearly done, take plates out (aargh eek v hot) then dole out sausags and bacon and mushrooms from oven while beans rewarm, bosh beans and eggs on. It's important to know how to do this of course, for when SMBO doesn't come along cos it's a boys w/e... OW!

My ex, a horsey type (read into that what you will) swore by hoof protection, after all hoofs are the same structure as nails.

I can't believe I am advising on blo-*/- nail care on a sailing forum.

Preaching to the converted, it's never a problem when it's us boys...

If I tried your well reasoned suggestion I'd be wearing the pan.
