SW24 Lister engine

I have a SW24 Lister engine. My electric starter is shot. I have been informed that parts for the Lucas starter are no longer available. I know there are many of these engines out there. Can anyone help?

do you have the lucas part number??

was told by lancing marine that the starter for ours was no longer available (its a ford), but they could re-con it for £500!

little auto electrical workshop down the road from the marina got me a brand new starter for £89

they reckoned that a lot of the lucas stuff was just renumbered and not discontinued, they cross referenced the old number and 24 hours later, shiny new motor turned up

Sadly Lucas Prince of Darkness stuff now comes from India, as Lucas as an entity no longer exists.

Quality is at best poor. If your old unit can be repaired this is always the best choice. Similar to Delco Remy with look alikes coming from China.
