Can anyone post a picture of where to mount an extra in-line fuel filter on the Suzuki DF2.5? I just got the outboard and space is pretty tight. I've spent a couple hours looking but can't find a picture.

Thanks,
Colburn

Yu dont say what year model ( proabably all the same though) but you can look at the appropriate exploded parts diagrams here
Suzuki Outboard Parts Catalog - Browns Point Marine Service, LLC

As asiabend says ITYWF it is inside the tank as part of the fuel tap assembly

Yes I am aware their is a fuel filter at the bottom of the fuel tank but I have read it's inadequate.

The outboard is brand new and has a fuel pump. I have looked at the repair manual so I know which line the filter needs to be installed on. The problem is that the line runs underneath a bunch of other lines and I can't figure out where it will actually fit. Part of the fuel line also has a heat guard on it which complicates things a little bit.

Since I didn't get any responses I just figured it out myself. The filter sticks out a little bit so when you put the top cover on it pushes the filter to the side a little bit. I chopped 2 or 3 inches of the original fuel line and the outer covering that surrounds it.

The filter is a STENS part number 120-562. Stens is the distributor but the actual manufacturer is ITW Fastex Visu-Filter. I believe the manufacturer part number is 8438-03-9909.

Here is another source for the filter: Visu-Filter High Flow In-Line Filter-1/4 in. - 8438-03-9909 Dirt Bike Snowmobile - Dennis Kirk

I've read on this forum and others that these carburetors can be very finnicky because the jets are very small. Some people have fitted an additional fuel filter because they believe the factory filter isn't good enough to keep the jets clean. I decided to add one as a preemptive measure. I don't actually have any experience with this motor so I'm not recommending that people add an extra fuel filter but I thought some people might appreciate knowing what size filter fits and where to put it if they decide they would like to add one too.

If you are concerned about the fuel quality - why are you buying from that source? If you have no choice is it not easier to buy the suspect fuel, filter it (at your leisure, say at home) into a clear, clean container - job done.

If you drain your carburettor prior to storage you will never have any issues. This is a recommendation in your owners manual. Draining the float bowl also removes any water which is an issue with ethanol fuel.

I'm not concerned with fuel quality. I'm concerned about other stuff getting into the fuel. One person reported small black flakes in the carburetor possible from the fuel cap degrading. As I mention earlier people have a lot of trouble with these outboard compared to two stroke outboards of the same size so I added the filter as a precaution. I will drain the carb as recommended in the manual and will use ethanol free fuel as well.

The fuel strainer would catch particles, anything small enough to go through the strainer will not affect the carb.
Problems with carburettors are nearly always due to leaving fuel sitting inside them. If you leave fuel inside the carb you still will have isues irrespective of fitting an additional filter.

We have the same O/B - lovely machine, no issues (exception - heavy compared to the 2 stroke 2hp it replaces). Its easy to shut off the fuel at the end of use and then the carburettor empties and the engine stops. I dislike having to lay it on its side, anyone offering to help can unwittingly lay it on the wrong side.

The only issues with running until it stops is you will always have residue in the carb, and with ethanol fuel that usually means water also
