I have a 2 year old motor (second generation) which worked wonderfully for a time.

I have now had the carburreter cleaned twice, as it became a nightmare to keep running - having to use the choke to get anywhere. Cleaning always worked. However, As I don't use it very often, is now wont work after leaving for a month or so, requiring cleaning all over again.

My location is Greece, I always run the motor out of fuel before leaving every time it is stopped. This is becoming a right pain. Any suggestions as to how to avoid cleaning so often?

Also the owners manual is spectacularly useless. It is possible to buy a service manual?

It does sound like a fuel problem. Mine do the same using old fuel. Maybe try with new fuel from busy garage and clean carb, fuel tank and filter mesh (inside tank at bottom on my 3.5 Tohatsu. )

Blow the jet out with compressed air if poss. although I admit to using a strand of copper wire from electrical flex v. gently.

What fuel mix ratio are you using?
I use a strict 100:1
Mine has run perfect for over 20 years, always starts second pull.
In that time I have cleaned the contacts twice, changed the plug once and had the head off once to clean the waterways.

Edit: Ignore me! I think yours is 4 stroke :o

Ooops - sorry I should of said four stroke!!!! By second generation I meant the second and improved version of the outboard - first one was apparently complete rubbish.

You could drain the carb with the little screw instead of running it dry, it might take any muck with it rather than leaving it in the float chamber.
