Survey report in - what to do next?

- engine anti-vibration rubbers (survey report says "Port engine, aft starboard anti-vibration mount was broken that a metal piece was welded instead. The other mountings of the engines were rusty, possibly the vibration rubbers were not in good condition.")?

Quote above from OP,s post
He,s written that from the survey , " report says " hence the confusion
To the OP just to be clear
MAN engines inc 6 cylinders R8 have an anti vibration damper on the end of the crank .

Engine mounts are not the same .
Thing is this a unbalance prop ( damage ) or and shaft will wreck the gearbox and poss stress out the " aft rear " engine mount ,
Other aspect of the report suggest missing bits on the stern-gear -is it the port side ?Maybe it's all been fixed ,if so why has the seller not said or got any papers parts bills for any works ?

Something has caused that mount to fracture it's not normal .
It's either bent / misaligned stern gear or crank damper issues ? Where are the bills to back up a repair ?

Considering Italy is awash with P's and P 46 for sale ,this one is throwing up too many questions -walk away IMHO
Also aside the buying process is real easy and the tax issue transparent in Italy .
Turkey is outside the EU I see potential paperwork hassle ,note i said potential .

Perhaps boat valuations are like houses, its where it is located that makes it valuable. If this boat was going to have the work done by either the owner or yourself is it in an area where there are suitably qualified MAN engineers. Or even if they are what is the time scale for them to be able to do the work. You also have to assume that your surveyor will have missed something which will cost more money.
Hopefully the Surveyor who did the survey was not one recommended by the Broker.
If there is a firm of Engineers locally who know these engines I would have them go and give a price, and a time scale.
I would prefer to have a price reduction and organise for the work to be done myself.
Certainly I would not go anywhere on that boat until the work is done.
Get a big lump knocked off the price or walk away.

Thanks for your reply. No I organised the surveyor myself (as recommended by this forum based on another thread I started).

There is a MAN service at the boat location. I am not sure how experienced they are with the marine engines. Assume they work mostly on trucks. I will try to get a quote from them for the engine work.

Thanks. It is my understanding that the surveyor means the engine mounts. Although I am not 100% sure from the picture most right:

The missing parts on the stern gear (port side):

If anyone wants to see the full report I am more than happy to share. Your advice is invaluable and highly appreciated.

I would be very concerned that an engine mount broke in a relatively young installation. This would indicate that either the engine is not installed correctly, hence creating a massive sheer load on the mount, or a significant vibration with the engine/transmission, which will cause premature failure. No one with any technical knowledge would weld up an engine mounting. You must find the root cause of the failure before anything else. To me, this boat is a lost cause, and you should move on.

Thanks again everyone for the advice. I have informed the broker. I'll await their reply but will start to look for other options again.
