Looks like we have ideal conditions for a positive surge tide this Thursday
The high tide level may be as much as 5.0m at Walton on the afternoon tide

That should extend freeflow at the local locks - for those mad enough to be sailing
and
Flood Tollesbury, Woodbridge Quay etc etc.

5m is not much, it was more than that this week at Mersea - or have I missed something?

Yes, the surge will add 0.7m to 1.0m to the local high water
I quoted Walton as an example

Walton was expecting 4.2m but may get 5.0m
Lowestoft was expecting 2.5m but may get 3.5m
West Mersea is expecting 5.2m but may get 6.0m

Out with the cameras !

As I recall, even this was not enough water to keep a certain forumite off the West Mersea putty. He was so proud of that, he actually told the Coastguard.

And then we went to dinner and the sparkly pig.

Can't see the conditions exist for any sort of worrying surge as the baro pressure is relatively high - still 1015 at Manston. This gale is coming from a squeeze between quite a high high and a not-very-low low. If you see what I mean. About +0.5m at Sheerness and Lowestoft right now.
Nonetheless I shall be at Hernia Bay seafront at HW this p.m. with camera ready...

A bit of an easterly to push it up the estuaries might have made a difference as well. Bit of west just now so would be surprised if it made enough to cause a problem.
