Back from 4 days away, probably the best 4 days of the year.
Left Exmouth early Thursday morning for St Peter Port, great crossing, not a drop of spray on the windscreen ( which is unusual on a semi displacement boat), sunny all the way. Was met by DepSol ( thanks Dom ) and had an enjoyable night out. Next day shorts and tee shirt weather, breakfast in the cockpit and a good look around the town. Victoria marina was almost full with some boats rafting up, must have been a new record for November. I had to keep on pinching myself to remind me it was really November and not July or August, I still can't believe the weather!!
Miscalculated the tides for the trip to Cherbourg, but still had a good push up Alderney race and reached Cherbourg in 3 hours, again no water on the windscreen. Another sunny hot day, met up with friends who had come over from Weymouth who had seen a dolphin in the marina the night before.
Excellent meal at the Grand Goussier (the best rastaurant by far that I've tried in Cherbourg) followed by drinks in the cockpit, was this really November! Weather looked to be turning so left early and pushed the tide for a few hours and then the weather finally proved it was November, wind on the nose and some fairly big holes to fall into. Added a few hours onto the trip but what a great few days.
The only surprise was the complete lack of British motor boats in both places, we saw a few in Guernsey but they were local boats, and no others in Cherbourg (apart from my mate). Has everyone else given up for the winter? Anway have just seen the forecast for the rest of this week - seems that winter is finally arriving, thank goodness we got away when we did, plenty of goood memories to help us through the long dark evenings.
Where did anyone else get to last weekend? If you had as much fun as us you'll still have a smile on your face.
