Sunseeker S20 renovation project

Update - "took ya time to update!"

I know, I know its been a little while since the last update but its been a challenge balancing work/life/boat but now I can give a little update and also ask a couple of questions while drinking beer and aching all over from todays boat work.

Biggest news....... Went down to Skegness and picked up the reconditioned engine :D

Even better news was... if your remember before, I posted a pic of the exhaust manifold being completely rusty and eaten? Well this engine came with one so more money saved there too!
We will be respraying the recon engine as it does look a little 'weathered' compared to the bits we have cleaned.

Question 1:
On the dash is an engine running meter (hours/mins). With a recon engine do you reset this back to zero or take a note of the hours the previous ran and just remember that?

There really has not a lot been done since the last update apart from cleaning up and spraying all the bits that's going to bolt onto the new engine.

Yes I know the impeller is facing the wrong way but the plumbing is all cleaned up and ready.

Plus the carbs are all cleaned and sprayed.

Now its time to remove the stern drive and make sure all that is working as it should be.

Removal of the drive was fairly simple once we read the manual.

Fairly clean oil came out of it and even though the prop needs replacing as its totally chewed it still turns smoothly.

Obviously there is always a bolt that was a pain and needed grinding so me dad just smiled and got his grinder out!

As you can see we removed the backboard too as this needs to be replaced.

Question 2:
Does anyone know what type of hard wood we should use?

Now for the pain that's been a right pain

Question 3:
We are having problems trying to spilt the engine from the bell housing. We have undone all the bolts and can split the two apart a few cm but not cannot completely separate them.

Does anyone have any ideas/tips?
Or is it just a case of brute force?

Well that's about it for now so will update as of when.

Suggest that you replace all the rubber o rings on the water pipes watch out that you do not force the pipes and miss shape them as they rely on being the correct shape to seal when refitted!

Hey all remember me? Sorry for not updating you this past year but life took over and then the 3 people responsible for working on the project had their own mini challenges too so I thought I would update you on the very much delayed renovation project.

Stern dive has now been removed.

We removed the custom tank and got it checked and then cleaned it up including the very wet and manky floor the tank was sitting on.

Yes that is a monster of a tank for the size of the boat.

Next stage it to fit the New AQ170 engine so I will post more updates when we find time to get that done.

Hope to update soon.

it is always good to hear of people making quiet and steady progress, especially when the end product is clearly going to be a gem.

PS Can I borrow your Dad for a couple of weeks ?

Awesome effort

Love a good build thread - theres just something satisfying about removing, repairing and fitting new/working parts again - and the knowledge gained when she hits the water in the boat is massive. Just the ability to know 'ah its that fuse there' or 'that clip over there' when things need adjusted instead of wondering how to go about it adds a lot.

Hi!

I hope that someone here could help me. I have a Sunseeker Sport 20 but I dont know how much the weight is? I am lokking for a triler and I think it's about 1500 kg but it seem a bit heavy....
