sunseeker on BBC2

In fairness, the guy in the video in the blue t-shirt makes me cringe.

I only have a little 37 footer, but it'd be one of the biggest on our lake and probably the most 'stand-out'. I shy with embarrassment when I arrive to a pier and people just stand there gawking, whereas this prat seems to love it. (ironically, the people gawking are most likely much wealthier than I, given that most of them are guests of (one of) the most expensive hotels in Ireland)

That said, i'm not changing it for a more traditional cruiser... I just need to move it down the Med where it'll be a tender :D

I thought he was pretty honest.. As he says, he is lucky to be able to do alot of things and he loves this..Ok, arriving on this boat gives him a buzz..I think it would give many a buzz unless they either did this every day, or had something bigger ;)
There might also be a small difference in where you (and I !) "arrive" and where he is turning up !!

I might be doing the guy a dis-service and will make a better judgement when the programme is aired. However, it is his attitude which gets everybody tarred with the 'Gin palace' brush and does nothing to dispel that. There people in all walks of life who like to show off I tend to avoid those types. If I was ever fortunate enough to have a 28M SS I would be discreet with it, if that is possible.

I can see why the guy gets a buzz entering ports in such a nice boat but i think he's got it wrong. People sitting outside the bars overlooking the harbors that boat operates, are not thinking "Oooo, who's the rich guy...i wonder if he's famous" The are more lightly thinking " It's that charter boat again" i hope they don't park it next to my boat" :encouragement:

It's not even his boat? :D I may only have a little 37 footer, but at least it's MINE!

Also, while there might be a difference (in geographical terms) where him and I 'arrive', the pier where I land is on the estate (we pick-up hotel guests) that hosted Pierce Brosnan's wedding (among other very wealthy people), hosted many celebs (Beyonce & Jay Z / Madonna / Robin Williams / Sean Conery to name a few) - Personally I get a buzz out of landing discretely and having some nice guests on-board, rather than the "wonder who he is" from people at the bar!

It gives him a buzz. Great. I don't understand why anyone would get bent out of shape over that.
It's his money, he's spending it how he chooses.

+1 he's hooked on boating like we all are - his mistake was to agree to the programme, be potentially misinterpreted and subject to potshots

I agree. Personally I get a buzz out of being at the helm of my own modest craft, but if he soaks up being in the cockpit of an expensive charter vessel it's no big deal. For all I know he's made his money through something that requires long hours of uncelebrated intensive work and deserves a bit of escapism to keep himself sane.

As I said ;)
