On the premis that this fine promoting-sailing organisation has been getting a lot of exposure here recently, and that all publicity is good publicity, where can one purchase shares?

Our experience was that flotilla-ing with them was actually undemanding simple Good Fun, that the other poor ignorant souls with us were jolly decent folk, and that the young sailing reps were really nice and knew their stuff (enough).
It was when we came to Proper RYA Instruction with SS that we encountered the true unhelpful ignorant upsetting know-it-all been-sailing-for-ever women-are-stupid degrading superciliousness . . .

Don't know anything about Sunsail, never had any dealings with them but I do dislike this constant referal to people who charter rather than own an boat as scum.

Perhaps it says more about the those who write than it does about those who charter.

Sunsails are part of 1st Choice Holidays.

I agree. The ant-women thing is a saily thing it seems, and if you want a yacht skipper(said one agency) there aren't any women. But many instructors are supecillious anyway. Something to do with most Brits seeing a position of authority simultaneously conferring military rank, qv teachers, police etc.

I absolutely agree. One could be forgiven for thinking that all the anti- Sunsail postings were written by ancient mariners who never put a foot wrong, who have never been arrogant, rude or boorish. I must have been looking at a different forum. Tolerance, folks, tolerance!

It does seem unreasonable to crucify a company for the faults of its customers.

I have never chartered from any company, but my son worked for Sunsail for seven years, in UK and the Mediterranean, and I met many of his fellow employees. They were the usual mixture that one would expect to meet in any walk of life, from the friendly, helpful expert to the snooty, arrogant incompetent. And this included the managers, as well as skippers and technical staff.

Friends who have enjoyed many Sunsail holidays, particularly at the Clubs in Greece and Turkey, have nothing but praise for the staff there.

I'm a long standing Sunsail customer, and pleased with the service they provide as a Med club/flotilla/bareboat company, although twice when caught out in strong winds, their boats have proved to be underwhelming, requiring a great deqal of nursing which would be a severe test for relative newcomers to life on the ocean wave.

But my views of what goes on in the Solent are coloured somewhat. Very shortly after acquiring my own pride-and-joy, we were moored in Cowes Roads when we were sailed into by a Sunsail charter boat, which neatly took off a couple of feet of teak capping, bent the pulpit and generally upset all and sundry.

Experienced not helped by Sunsail HO being extremely hard to pin down on paying for repairs.

When Sunsail boats park in the marina we use, its a salutary exercise to count the battle scars on their topsides. Nary a one is unblemished. You can usually find them by dint of noise coming from their berths.

In the days when my spectacles were rose coloured, I bought my wife a day-skipper course with Sunsail from Portsmouth. Although her piece of paper was signed, she was the first to admit that the instructional content was poor, and that it was more of a week's jolly around the skipper's favourite watering holes than a serious learning experience.

Re the reference to female skippers part of the thread. All I know about Sunsail is racing, as guest crew, around the cans once a year on the S.F. 36's. The charterers use a Sunsail skipper and the best one we ever had was a young Irish lady who was really excellent.

Then there\'s \"Radio Sunsail\"...

Which most of us know as Channel 16.

I have moved away from the Solent now (& the new boat has gmdss-selcall) so will no longer be plagued by crew wishing to turn the set off due to endless calls from "Sunsail 2 this is Sunsail 34. Which pub Brian" or "Sunsail RIB this is Sunsail 27 could you...." etc.
I suppost that because there are so many of those Janneau 37's around they are bound to be heard more on the radio but do they have to give the impression of taking the place over?
