Sunken small yacht, Newton Creek IoW

I don’t know the type of boat, but he was an older live aboard basically living rent free in Newtown. I understand he wanted to scrub off some sort of ancillary floating shed. As he had no engine for his boat or tender, he attempted to tow the whole shooting match ashore, caught by wind and tide went aground near the entrance and got holed. The rising tide took him off again, and it sank in the fairway shortly after as we can see. Insured, unlikely. He’s lost his home, and most of his possessions with it I expect. The boat will be easy to replace with another free, tatty old semi wreck I am sure. As to the rest, hard to say. What the NT will do about it God knows. A danger to navigation, possibly a fair bit of fuel on board, plus all the flotsam his belongings have become. It’s an environmental disaster in there as well as the human tragedy.
Thanks for the explanation.
Yes somebody will have to pick up the substantial costs for removal to clear the fairway.
The case for compulsory registration and third party / wreck removal insurance gets stronger.

That is all hearsay, but best that can be managed. Just the Island grapevine, I daresay mostly correct though.

The video implies it was this, but doesn't say so explicitly. I can't identify the class, no doubt someone else can.

All the descriptions seem to point to the live aboard (last year) who anchored in Newtown River, Shalfleet side towards the buoy marking the start of the oyster beds. Never heard a saxophone being played though. Both his boats seemed to be full of items that we would call scrap but no doubt he found useful ....

The sunken boat has a nice looking jib, I am sure it is not the junk boat and it certainly isn't the boat owned by the tick-tocker [sic]. So there are three boats in the video, the boat that sinks, the "influencer" and the influencer swimming to retrieve his dinghy and the feral junk boat.

And two sunken yachts in different positions kindly added by Navionics users trying to be helpful.

Out sailing tomorrow, may pop into Newtown for lunch.

Does anyone know the latest situation in the entrance at Newtown ? Is the wreak marked now and is there much room to get by in the channel if you are going up to shalfleet? I might have time for a trip over this week and it would be good to know what to look out for thanks

One of the earlier posts showed the mast visible. Hopefully that gives enough detail. If you do go there this coming week please post a few pictures to keep us updated.

It looks like he's moored his replacement boat alongside the mast of the old one. This was shortly after LW today.

Respect to him if he's doing some kind of self recovery.

Is that a Sadler? There's one of that colour that spends a fair bit of time around Dell Quay. (As far as I know without causing any problems.) If it's the same boat/guy I said hello as I was tacking South down the Roman Transit in the Autumn and he was sailing up, he seemed nice enough.
