Sunken boat project.

No it's not.

I have a brand new BF200 at home.

This will be fitted once I've sold the existing engine. ( With full disclosure regarding the dunking).

I think the concern is to do with the fact that the first stage of this restoration needs to be to rip out every single wire, every single electrical component and every single light fitting and replace it all with brand new.

Otherwise your wires are all going to corrode from the inside out. Salt water will have travelled miles up the insulation of all your wires.

Apologies if that’s what you have done but it wasn’t clear from your original posts.

It’s also why most people write these sort of projects off; the cost of fixing them up properly is greater than the value once fixed unless someone practically pays you to take the boat.
 
Update

I've removed the fuse panel at the front of the engine and cleaned all the contacts and connectors. One plug had signs of seawater corrosion so that's all removed now.

The engine now doesn't cut out when either trim button is pressed.

So, just the lack of any charging output from the alternator remains as a fault

I've ordered a new equivalent at £198 to be delivered this week which gives me time to study the workshop manual on how to replace it.

I also have a local Honda agent booked for a couple of weeks time. If I've sorted the charging issue then I'll get a diagnostic report along with engine hours which will no doubt give some comfort to the prospective purchaser.

Agreed, I didn't pay much because of the work involved.

With new engine and wiring sorted it's probably a £35-38k boat in the current market.

I'll either do well or very well...

Alternator received, I'll fit it tomorrow and give it a go.

If that doesn't fix it then I'm not going to replace endless parts as a method of fault finding.

Maybe the diagnostic report will flag up the specific problem...

Time is money and I have a spreadsheet to answer to (and Mrs HP of course).

My brother is escorting me. Big ball fenders available if a tow is required.

I've rigged a 25 litre tank plus a 20 litre reserve so shouldn't run out of fuel.

Engine was run for half an hour at fast tickover in gear as a "basin trial".

Now a real test on Soton water.

If successful then I'll advertise it immediately with a sea trial available for prospective purchasers.

£50 fuel contribution which I'll refund if they buy it.

Tends to limit day trippers....
 
Update.

Guy from the local Honda dealer is coming tomorrow to plug his laptop into the dunked engine.

I've run it up a few times and everything seems ok.

When I use the trim up/down button the low voltage alarm on the throttle goes off.

I know the hydraulic pump pulls a big current as every outboard I've had I see the voltage drop significantly when it's operated.

I'm getting over 14 volts at the battery following the alternator replacement.

I've also decided that I'm selling the boat rather than keep it.

I've not fallen in love with it unfortunately.

My Finnish made, AMT sports cuddy is perfect for me and the quality outstanding.

So, I have a dunked boat with electrics that need renewing, a BF200 dunked outboard that works and a brand new BF200 at home....

What to do??
 
I’d try and flog the boat as it is, but you’ll be dealing with absolute pond life offering you about £2.50.

If you fit the new engine you’ll have to sell the boat for massively more, which will make it much harder to shift unless you do a massive restoration job to get it back to like new. And even then it’s always going to be the boat that sunk unless you rename it and erase its history.

Saying that if my experience of selling a newly new high HP outboard without any rigging as a private seller is anything to go by, that’s gonna be a nightmare to shift as well 😂 would the dealer take it back?
