They have been on our ‘to do’ list for years. And Craighouse is one of our local favourite spots too.View attachment 158582
Perfect weather for the Paps of Jura a week or 3 ago. Boat is in Craighouse under Helen's bent knee.
You've not seen my two Ford Sabres fire up on a Winters day then.......The UK will never achieve decarbonisation while puffers ply their trade.
McCormaig Isles 2nd June on the advice of Claymore of this parish.Eilean Mòr, MacCormaig Isles, 22 June. The next day on a fine reach to Craighouse, Jura, I took green water over the bows a few times (wind against tide, an area known for rough water).
The front half of the coach roof had silt grains on it. The Knox anchor had been forced between the roller and cheek and canted over under the pin. The silt came from the Knox cavity, which I guess was jetted clean. No damage but exciting.
Yesterday was a stormer of a sail up from Craighouse. Force 4 lumpy initially then then F6(7), flat seas, 2 reefs in the mail, 3 reef in the Genoa, beam reach, very warm. Perfect.
They are actually experimenting with biofuels at the moment as they would like to move away from coal. The UK will never achieve decarbonisation while puffers ply their trade.
Sometimes the short trips are the most memorable. A fun trip. Not terribly exciting and I forgot the camera but first mini adventure this year was Thursday 15th to Saturday 17th; Gareloch to Largs, nice sail for the first half, got the spinnaker up for the 1st time this year and got 6 kts from 10 apparent, then the wind buggered off and we baked under the sun(sails were offering a welcome respite previously) while motoring the rest of the way. Lamb curry. Slow Friday morning motor in no wind to Millport and the excellent council moorings; do the bucket and spade bit and buy an ice cream, then motor south past Little Cumbrae and on for Lamlash in a dead calm. The wind came in 2-3 miles off Arran and a nice beat was had for 90 minutes in to the moorings. Fish pie and veg. A previous engagement on Sunday required a prompt return, so the 3kts of wind from the north east on Saturday morning meant more motoring. What appeared to be a Minke popped up just south of Little Cumbrae, a transatlantic or similar rowing boat on some kind of training exercise was passed off Wemyss Bay, then the rain started off Inverkip; ~6 hours after dropping the mooring in Lamlash we reached Rosneath. Hopefully just a taste of sailing to come(and more wind!).
We were in Loch Teacuis on the 26th. Magical place.Well, no 4G, drinking and weather conspired to hold up my continuation of this thread. The wind has been on the nose all week as we’ve headed south. Left Kyle 6am (wife’s idea) and got to Mallaig. Lovely harbour, marina and town. What’s not to like when the steam train comes in twice a day? Two days there to shower, get supplies and drink with the neighbours. View attachment 159045
As usual, a late nights party on a neighbouring boat preceded an early start…
... in to Loch Teacuis for a lovely peaceful night.
...
Now enjoying the pleasant Loch na Droma Buidhe, and relax.
Shieldaig is on our list - may not make it this year. What has happened to summer? Sitting in Shieldaig, Loch Torridon enjoying 35kts gusts from the south which have now subsided.
