Let me put it this way: a couple of years ago we got a big bill for damage to one of the SCA tugs caused by one of our ships. The crew couldn’t remember even seeing the tug. None the less we handed over the US$92k like lambs and put it down to it being our turn.
Seems like the Egyptians got a brand new tug out of this little escapade!

If your crew were keeping look-out they might have seen it. ;)

Panama Maritime Authority, acting as the authority of Ever Given’s flag state, has submitted its accident report to the International Maritime Organization, finally shedding light on the cause of what is arguably the most famous grounding in the modern shipping industry. It highlights the pilots role in the grounding. Reading pages 66 to 68 of the report makes some sensible recommendations that should prevent some future accidents.

Well, with one exception, Ever Given’s Master, crew and management company come out very well in that report.
By contrast, the Suez pilots would seem to have a lot of questions to answer.

The one exception on Ever Given being the Master not intervening earlier. But he seems to have been in an impossible situation with theoretical responsibility, but the pilots giving direct orders and speaking (ultimate arguing?) in Egyptian rather than maritime English. Very difficult to leap in and give different orders from the pilots in their canal when doing 12+ knots.
