Studland - MMO Management protocols for the MCZ in place from 17th December

Didn't help getting mooring money by using an parking app that no one had heard, of and when you did look at the app the reviews were nearly all one star. I looked at using the app but came to the conclusion it wasn't worth down loading it.

When I last visited, some of the ecco buoys seemed to missing the mooring strops which made them unusable.

Not all of us want to download some garbage app, I dont and wont do banking on my phone these apps can potentially be a back door in through security a man in a boat sounds a much better idea. If someone has put a buoy in and maintains it Im more than happy to give them some bucks for a good nights sleep.

I feel that my phone is as safe as my PC for banking apps.

For Studland I prefer to anchor as it is so shallow. Man and boat monitoring the mooring buoys costs money and outside of school holidays, Studland can be fairly empty midweek. Once a fewyears back I waste only boat there during the day. I started to wonder whether I had missed something in the forecast ! Boats started to eventually turn up early evening.

For boatfolk marina berth holders , it feels we’ve already paid upfront within our marina fees that boatfolk have very kindly sponsored the eco moorings in Studland Bay , there are alternative mooring nearby with the use of anchors if you don’t want to pay - Swanage Bay . Swanage Bay was noticeably more popular last season ! Or if you a seeking a mooring buoy , Swanage Sailing Club have a number for use by visiting yachts , £10 / night last season , at least all the money goes to a sailing club!

I've never found Swanage as settled as Studland. But then at Studland I am in shallow water and just an easy dinghy paddle from the beach.

I see that the National Trust are looking for volunteers to help analyse images from a boat monitoring camera at Studland for gathering data for compliance with the voluntary no anchor zone and paying for the privilege for mooring on the buoys donated by Boatfolk , which some of us have paid for within our Boat folk annual mooring fees . Don’t like the idea of paying for the same thing twice. The natural progression for boat owners will be getting are mooring notices of non payment of mooring fees not dissimilar to car park operators with extensive additional fees and fines for non payment …… watch out they are coming after you !

I don’t recall there being a ‘tag” with details on how to pay, QR code, etc. on the mooring I picked up the other week.

Having identified the ‘Avocet’ didn’t pay the mooring fee I foresee a good many practical hurdles to get through before being able to successfully invoice the skipper

People should be aware that the PCN issued by a private company is a "Parking Charge Notice" vs a council issued "Penalty Charge Notice".

The private companies can only ever issue invoices (dressed up to look like fines). The vast majority of these are NOT enforceable.

**NEWBIES!! PRIVATE PARKING TICKET? OLD OR NEW? **READ THESE FAQS FIRST!** Thankyou!

I'd like to see how Studland's parking app people comply with the law on signage etc!

Strikes me that it would be very easy for a volunteer who wasn't entirely onside with the VNAZ shenanigans (either way) to make a mess of the counting. Though why the NT are sticking their oar in defeats me.

That’s a very good question , data collection to be provided to the Studland Bay Partnership for what reason other than the to extract revenue from visiting boats , if the funds collected are reinvested in keeping good quality moorings there may be some justification, however the mooring laid at present are limited to length and weight of boats , our not unreasonable sized yacht of 12m and weighs in at around 14 tons exceeds the guidance provided.

This would suggest there needs to be a discussion between boaters and those positioning and laying the mooring buoys to provide a more suitable arrangement to satisfy length and weight of boats and also dedicated space for anchoring . Clearly the one size fits all isn’t the solution to satisfying boaters needs.
Are there collective thoughts or a boaters body that can provide meaningful input to The Studland Partnership / NT for a more workable solution . Work with them rather than fight against them …. Just a thought
