Hi, I’m afraid I can’t seem to find anything solid online and wanted to know if anybody knows the rough max draft on the mooring buoys in studland bay. Our draft 1.6-17

many thanks!

They are marked with boat length
Weight. The outer ones are for up to 10 tons and the new inner ones up to 5 tons. There was around 2.4m depth on the inner ones last night, possibly a short while after LW. I don't take much notice as my draft is around 0.9m. The new ones are still around 350 metres from the shore according to my plotter.

thank you everybody! i really appreciate it for next time. We ended up on one of the sailing club buoys as we were unsure, which is £15 - I was going to move but being able to use the showers sold it to me!

Should note that he told us we could use the showers so we paid, but it’s closed! Somebody nearby told us it’s rarely opened and somebody has to be there to let us in when it is opened as it operates on key fobs. A little frustrating.

I found the internal liquid application at the Bankes Arms more of an attraction. However a bit annoying if new buoys now really that far out, as only draw 0.9m. Still I suppose its good for the eel glass

Tried studland today and if was absolutely rammed! Also other boats circling waiting. Didn’t expect that!
That is because it was a nice day with a gentle westerly wind until mod afternoon so perfectly sheltered. I was out but decided not to go into the bay because it looked crowded.

Plenty of room to anchor to the NE of the no anchor zone but a long way to row.

Room to anchor ?
in all honesty we’ve only been sailing for a short time and we have never dropped anchor! We originally planned our route with anchoring in mind, and well, we have cold feet lol. I’m not sure wise to try for our first time with so many around either, but I’m probably just making excuses!

Would you say tomorrow will be the same? Don’t mind rowing, but as we’ve never dropped anchor before - a little more than nervous!

Forecast is similar. If you have a chart plotter with the no anchor zone marked on it, Follow the NE edge and you will find clear sand with about 3m at low (more tomorrow as its neaps.

Good spot to learn anchoring as good holding. drop about 15m chain and set the anchor by reversing with the engine, then let about another 5 and you will be fine.

You can then join the next long thread on the forum on anchors.

Thanks for that. I think we’re going to try tomorrow. We really do need to learn, but once we discovered the buoys existed I think we got lazy! We are around here until Monday, but it looks like the wind is due to get a little crazy on Saturday
