I am having problems with the raw water supply to my engine, it is fed by a Stuart seacock, do you have to prime the filter chamber on the seacock. Could this be the cause of the intermittent supply of water to my engine.

I have a Stuart seacock that was feeding my Volvo MD1 (Volvo now removed awaiting a Beta) - never had to prime it - I would suspect a blockage elsewhere or a problem with your pump. Have you checked the impeller?

Sorry just re-read your post - if it is intermittent are you sure its not weed clogging the inlet to the seacock - if you remove the filter chamber is there a flow of water when the seacock is open?

This has happend twice now, both times when coming back into the marina. When it over heated there was no flow from the water pump to the engine, i am not sure about the flow from the seacock to the water pump. My thinking with the stuart seacock is, the filter chamber does not vent at its highest point so if there was air in there it would become traped.

One of my pre engine checks was to always unscrew the top of the chamber and open the seacock to check water was flowing through (as well as to check the filter) - if it got that far then any blockage must be between the seacock and pump. If it has happened twice coming into the marina I would first check the strainer to ensure water is actually getting in and you haven't picked up weed or plastic. You can easily dislodge (relatively easily) any crap by removing the straining, opening the seacock and poking the end of a knife down the empty (filter less) chamber.
