Only vaguely connected but, for reasons with which I won't bore anyone, I put a bag containing a full set of soaking wet ratchet straps in the back of the car in early February and largely forgot about them...until I was able to trace the damp-trainers smell a couple of weeks later and start the process of drying them out. Quite bracing.
