My old Stowe Speed / Log seems to have packed up, are they still available as i would like to replace like for like and not have to mess about with the through hull fittings?
Thanks, the only problem is the boat is in Greece and I am in UK, which is why I was prepared to go to the expense of replacing parts, not knowing whats faulty.
Is it the display that has packed up or have the magnets fallen out of the paddle or has the wire broken? You will need to work out which bit to replace.
Mine hasn't worked last season but I have discovered that the wire has a join in it and had been submerged during the season (don't ask about my bilges please!) and so I took the join apart as that appears to be the problem.
I kept my raggie cat in Preveza, Greece and came down one Spring to find my Stowe depth sounder didn't! When I took things to pieces, I found that over the winter some sort of wasp had actually got behind the instrument panel for a warm, dry Christmas and eaten the flex to the bare wires. Some wires were shorting and one was actually bitten away. Might be worth a look (the wasps will all be gone, perhaps leaving a few carcases); rewiring would be cheaper?
Agree with the earlier posters that your old Stowe instruments might well not be working due to a relatively minor fault. first job is to test connectivity from transducers and the power to the instruments. If you are convinced you need bits try here http://www.tinleyelectronics.com for advice and supply of parts I am interested to see the new looking instruments on the site linked on the first reply. Do they supply bits for the older technology as well I wonder? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Okay
Thanks all for replies, looks like I will have to try and fix it first.
CBT AWMarine on the above link seem to have inherited the Stowe name but only seem to offer a wind instrument at the moment plus repairs to older stowe equipment, which may of course come in handy.
Thanks for the tinley link too, could be useful.
Moodysabre, thanks I may find the manuals useful at some point.

[/ QUOTE ]Just for the record, Stowe Marine and Tinley Electronics are the same company.
The new Stowe Instrument is far more than just a wind system - it can display any data from the data box including GPS information. It is intended to replace any of the Dataline display heads which may have failed beyond economic repair whilst retaining the existing transducers. Of course you do need to make sure that it is just the display head that has failed and not the Databox or transducers.
I have just replaced the Stowe instruments on my 1988 boat. I got fed up paying what I thought were excessive prices for spares. I have the impeller, an analogue speed display and a Navigator 2 display which gives speed, distance, wind speed, etc, together with a lot of the wiring. I was thinking about putting them on Ebay. PM me if you are interested.
