Hoping to go to the Walton Backwaters tomorrow. Its somewhere I've been plenty of times but I've always anchored in Hamford Water. On my iPhone chart (Navionics, recently updated) it looks like there's very little room between the edge of the channel and the drying out 'zone' adjacent to Stone Point. Can anyone who has anchored off Stone Point this season confirm there's still room to drop the pick there safely? 23ft boat with lifting keel, draws 50cm with keel up.

Edit: I do have the current paper chart on boat, wouldn't want you all thinking I rely on the tech too much!

Was there at the weekend, I picked up a buoy, however the 2 boats that accompanied me moored in the spot that the chap above mentions, they draw about 1.8M and had plenty of water beneath even at low tide.

Anchoring. Not much has changed from previous years. Anchor close to, just inside the Walton channel near to the eastern bank. It is steep to and out of the flow. If the weather is settled it is feasible to anchor to the seaward of Stone Point but be prepared to move if the wind pips up. In worsening weather I would pick up a buoy in the Walton Channel.

If you need to resupply, a trip from The Spit N Cardinal Buoy, up (the well buoyed) Foundry Reach, will put you close to the shops and supermarkets in Walton.

For the more cautious, there are a number of unoccupied mooring bouys at that end of the Walton Channel so depending on how long you plan to stay, one option is to pick up a bouy on arrival and inspect the area by dinghy at low tide before anchoring.

Hope this helps.
